I know you're online

Quinn stared as the notification popped up at the top of her screen. She hadn't managed to get much sleep, what with her brain occupied by her father's current state and the business of her life right now, not to mention the phone call from Dylan earlier.
She'd also fallen into a deep rabbit hole of watching videos and hadn't been watching the clock. Her eyes automatically flickered up at each notification.
"I know you're online"
Her stomach flipped at the words. There wasn't much she could do now. She turned her head to the side and watched as Taylor drooled on her pillow, mouth open slightly, breathing deeply. She smiled at the sight, knowing how tired Taylor had been the whole day.
She closed down her instagram reels and selected the direct message button. Dylan had never messaged her on instagram before, always choosing whatsapp to do so, so this sense of almost urgency made her heart race.
Quinn: hey
Dylan was quick to reply, barely allowing Quinn to blink before a new message from him appeared on her screen. She read it three times over, even though it was just a singular word.
Dylan: hey
Taylor mumbled in her sleep before sighing softly and pulling most of the blanket her way, leaving half of Quinn's body exposed to the cold air. Quinn chewed her lip before slowly pushing the remains of the blanket off of herself and quietly slipping out the bed, careful not to make the shift of weight too obvious. She didn't want to risk Taylor waking up.
She padded across the wooden floor, grabbing a fuzzy robe that hung by the door and putting it on to protect her bare arms and midriff from the nights chill. With a soft creak, the bedroom door opened and Quinn made her way downstairs and into the kitchen.
Her phone was tightly gripped in her right hand defensively, as though someone were attempting to take it from her. She grunted as she boosted herself up to sit on the kitchen counter, before switching her phone back on, squinting at the bright light.
Dylan had sent a follow-up text that caused her to roll her eyes. "Desperate much?" she whispered under her breath. Opening her chat with Dylan back up, her thumbs hovered over the keyboard as she tried to string any words together to form a coherent sentence. But by the time she had thought of anything to say, Dylan had sent a third message. Consisting of more than one word!
Dylan: Hey so I dont know if you've fallen asleep, but I was wondering if you'd like to have brunch tomorrow? I'd love to see you again :)
Quinn's lips parted and her brow formed a tight knit line. Brunch? That seemed innocent enough right?
Quinn: Yes, I'd love to, give me a time and place and I'll be there :)
Before she could even allow her brain to process anything, she'd already sent the message, which was immediately read by Dylan. No surprises there.
Dylan: Great!! Shall we say Cafe Chelsea at 11am?
Quinn: Sounds good!!
Quinn cursed herself under her breath for her lack of self control, as she switched her phone off. She sighed heavily, piercing the silence of the night before hopping off the counter and slowly making her way back upstairs. Her heart felt heavy in her chest and she couldn't quite explain why.
As soon as her head hit the pillow, she was out like a light, snoring peacefully next to Taylor, who had pretended not to notice her temporary absence.
-------
Taylor breathed in deeply through her nose as she rolled over in bed, her arm stretched out to find the comfort of Quinn's warmth. But her eyes sprung open when she was met with cold sheets. She sat up quickly, regretting her decision as her head began to pound, and scanned the room for Quinn.
She kicked the covers off with great struggle and padded over to the en suite, expecting to see Quinn curling her eyelashes in front of the mirror, or simply doing her business on the toilet. But there was no Quinn to be found.
"Quinn?!" Taylor yelled into the emptiness of the house. But she was met with total silence in return. A shiver ran down her spine as her heart grew heavy in her chest with a feeling she couldn't quite explain.
Taylor raced downstairs, searching high and low for her wife before collapsing in a wicker chair in the living room, breathing heavily. She hadn't found Quinn, nor had she found a note explaining Quinn's whereabouts. And that worried her more than anything else.
As she ran her hand over face, rubbing the sleep from her eyes, her phone began to blow up. Vibration after vibration ran through the pockets of her sweats, disturbing her leg. She took the phone from her pocket and saw multiple messages from Tree.
Taylor's heart almost came to a stop as she immediately began to think the worst. With a shaky finger, she opened up her chat with Tree.

Tree: do we know this man?
Taylor raised an eyebrow at her words, clicking on the link Tree had sent her, that led her straight to twitter.
