Chapter 17 - A month.

"..." Alaric is concentrating on his magic, an injection was performed on a piece of meat, the venom dark and sticky in a sense, Alaric uses the meat of dead animals as a vessel to perform his magic study of poisons.

He had the Bronze Serpent down with Silver, Gold, Emerald, Ruby, and Sapphire Serpents to also study. Right now he's working on an antidote for the Gold Serpent.

It has also been a month since Norn left. From time to time she visits but rarely stays for long. She tends to stay away from most, Kristene being the woman she talked to and consulted with.

And Alaric thinks about what Lilia said to her... About her and Norn's relationship. It's clear their ideas of Paul don't match but she's closer to him than Rudeus.

But... When visiting... She hasn't done so since the second half of the month. Kristene grew worried, the boy was seen watering his garden, as she looked at him,

"Aren't you worried, sweety? Norn can be a bit shy, sure, but we're talking about a young girl barely 10!" Kristene showed her worries, as Alaric sighed,

"Rudeus came to me about that too. She was worried about Norn... He even said he'll find out what's happening-" Alaric realized something...

"Wait... I was a student at Ranoa... I could walk in whenever, right?" Alaric wondered as Kristene nodded-

"!" She realized... He was going to see what was going on.

"You're thinking about... Checking up on her?" Kristene wondered, as Alaric nodded, rolling up his sleeves,

"My name... Is Kristene Lowel. Or just Kristene Lowel Greyrat. I married Alaric about two or fewer years ago and it was the happiest day of my life. Someone who I never knew for long yet he cares for me... Well, as much as he can for someone so young..." Says Kristene, as she walks out, as... Alaric stood next to her.

"Next stop, Norn," Alaric said as the woman nodded,

"Right."

"I was once a prostitute working for various men of wealth. Most say it's due to my looks that I got this far in life... And... Well, they're right. A man named Han Lowel bought me from my parents who used me to buy their home... It was sad... And even worse... Their son... Noel Lowel... Used me as his damn bank. It was a sad shell of a man... Thank the heavens he was infertile." Kristene breaths a sigh of relief, her thoughts continuing,

"Right now we're on a mission. To see why Norn is... Not visiting anymore." Kristene said to herself, as entering...

"Erm... Sorry, Alaric. You'll have to stay outside." Kristene knew the rules somewhat. It's bad enough that Alaric is even nearby let alone within the reach of the dorm's door.

"Right. I'll just... Urm... Make a portrait?" Alaric formed a block of earth, as Kristene giggled.

"Alright, then. See you in a bit, my love." Kristene closes the door... And entered the girl's dormitory.

And, well...

"Meow?" Says... Linia?

"N-Nya!?! W-What are you doing here!?!" She was shocked to see Kristene here.

"Linia, was it? I am just here to check on Norn, my husband's sister-"

"MEOWO! You can't be here!" She ordered,

"Urm... S-Someone else is speaking to her-"

"Someone else? Can I ask who?" Kristene wondered...

Alaric is then seen there... Preparing a meal for his family. He can't help but grow... More worried.

"Big Brother?" Aisha soon entered the kitchen, and Alaric noticed her voice,

"Aisha... H-Hey, what's up?" Alaric responds, the girl stating,

"I haven't seen Norn for a while... Is she alright? I knew something was up when Kristene was-"

"WAHHH!!!!" Suddenly cries of Lucia are heard,

"Shh... It's alright, Lucia." Lilia is seen holding the baby, as Alaric is about ready to snap-

"And there's our little bundle of joy! Hahaha! Come to big uncle Sauros!" Sauros comes in, holding the baby,

"Ouf! You're becoming so big! Soon, your old man won't be able to carry you!" Sauros said, as Lucia smiled, and giggled a bit, Alaric thanked the man,

"Thank you, Sauros."

"Hehe, it's nothing, my boy." Sauros laughed, before growing serious,

"I've heard about Norn." Sauros grew serious, as Lilia nodded,

"Norn isn't as smart or intelligent as you, Aisha, or Rudeus. So it's understandable. But she's also a Greyrat. She's tougher than this as far as I can tell with my lovely Eris!" Sauros explained as Lilia agreed, but only slightly,

"As much as I agree with Sauros, Norn is just a child. Paul took her everywhere with her so it's understandable she's feeling down. Then there's the constant notes Rudeus sends him. It isn't hard to realize that-"

"That Norn would've been upset by our names being flaunted! Mom, it isn't that hard! Norn is suffering because of our accomplishments being put on her. I know she isn't that smart if she can't finish one simple paper-"

"Aisha." Alaric sternly looked at the girl, as Aisha shrugged,

"It's the truth and you don't seem to notice, Big Brother." Aisha is blunt, as Sauros nods,

"It is true, Alaric. But we're here to help you, that's why you asked us to leave you, ain't that right?" Sauros wondered as Alaric stared... He... He made such a huge family...

Alaric sits there, as Norn clings to Kristene. It seems that everything was a success.

"Y-You felt that way? All this time?" Alaric said in horror at the things Norn endured... Secluding herself, the constant remarks of how special their siblings are compared to her, and the mental stress that came with it.

"..." Rudeus stared at the girl as if he endured the same issues, relating to the girl.

"I suggest we keep her at home, Alaric," Rudeus says as Norn peaked at the man,

"..." And Norn had zero words to speak.

"But... I also know that she's a capable girl now." Rudeus explained, stating,

"She just... Needed someone to vent to." He also added, as Kristene nods,

"I suggested Norn visits at least once a week. By then, we'll have fun shopping... Cooking... And just hanging out, you know?" She said, as Norn... I am not sure how to respond to this.

"Well... It won't hurt to spend a few 10 Gold Coins..." Alaric didn't object he found it nice. He was building up more money than royals here, and the merge of the Lowel and Greyrat homes created the brand new Lowel Greyrat household! The name Notos Greyrat is practically purged forever, due to Luke. Alaric and Rudeus' cousin.

And then, they eat. Everyone grew... Warmer around the girl, as Norn was embarrassed and felt awkward around these people. But Alaric stared, it was as if they were trying their best now to make this place much like home to the young child, who experienced things Alaric could not bare to experience himself.

It was an amazing life... Too comfortable.

Way too comfortable...
