I cringed inwardly as my mother kept fussing over me.

"Mae! I'm ok, trust me."

"Did you see yourself? It's not even your fight, and you got hurt!"

I pouted at her, hoping she would stop nagging. But my mom was on a roll. Just as she kept going on and on, the doorbell rang. I used that as an excuse and ran off to open the door, only to see a food delivery guy. I cocked my head, confused as I was sure I didn't order any food.

I thought maybe my mother had, so I thanked the guy, bringing the food in and asking my mother if she had ordered anything.

"Ma, did you order dinner for us?"

"Hmm? I didn't. I was thinking of cooking, though a food delivery is a blessing. Who got it?"

I shrugged my shoulders as I opened and saw all of my favourites plus 1 or 2 additions. The food was more than enough for my mother and me. In fact, it seemed way too much. I bit my lips as I ruffled through the plastic bag, looking for the receipt so I could see the sender. I finally realized it was from P Jeff.

My heart warmed at this gesture. He was so sweet to have gotten me dinner. I told my mother on whom it was, and she came over, declaring it was way too much food. She asked me to invite him over for dinner too, citing that she wanted to see him too.

I called him, and my phone calls going straight to voicemail. He must be at a work event. I texted him and then told my mother he may not join us as he must be at work. She sighed but said she would keep aside for him first so he could have it later. She told me to send it over if possible. I agreed. We were in the middle of dinner when Jeff called back. He had been at the gym and just got home. I invited him over, and initially, he was sceptical and didn't want to disturb us, but my mom successfully commandeered the phone and insisted he turn up.

Unable to reject her, Jeff turned up 40 minutes later, dressed in a beige shirt, jeans, and a cap pulled over his head. He came in, waii-ing respectfully to my mother. She bustled around, getting him a plate and forcing him to sit down to eat. She glared at me and told me to accompany him as she went to cut fruits for us.

"You shouldn't have gotten all this food for us, P. It's a lot."

"It's fine. I just wanted to make sure you had something to eat, plus not tire your mom out, too. At least you can spend more time with her."

I smiled at him. My mom joined us with a plate of fruits, and she sat down to chit chat with us. We had a good time before she took her leave at around 10pm. Jeff offered to drive her home, but she waved it away, insisting she was fine. I called her an Uber instead and got her to text me once she was home.

Jeff hung out a while more with me, and we had a good time chatting, and I even taught him some of my video games. He was so bad at it that it was so sad. He tossed the controller away in frustration after losing his 5th game to me consecutively. I just laughed and patted his shoulders comfortingly as I started keeping the controllers away.

"I'm going to head home first but text me if anything ok?"

"All rights will do. When are we meeting next?"

"Hmm, I guess at our next event? That's next Sat right?"

"Oh okays, I was thinking if you wanted to come over on Tuesday? The boys will be coming here for games night. You could join us?"

"Im so bad at this. Is this even a good idea?"

"It will be fun P. Come on!"

I watched as Jeff pondered it for a bit but he finally nodded, grinning away. I hooted in joy and watched as he went off. As I closed the door, it kept hitting me that I really enjoyed spending time with P Jeff and was really glad my mother insisted he came over.

Now, I just had to keep creating reasons to meet him. Otherwise, I know we will not. Our paths barely crossed otherwise.
