I held onto my breath as a message pinged back from Ta. I unlocked my phone and all he had replied was, "See you, P". 

I was getting a bit frustrated seeing him trying to talk about Nene to me despite knowing I am not straight and that he sounded jealous though he was pretending not to be. I hope I was reading him right when I replied like that. I knew he was straight but he was making me feel like he had something brewing for me. Ugh, boys are just as difficult as the girls.  

Work kept me busy the next few days and I only managed to meet Ta and Nene for dinner on Friday. I walked into the restaurant only to find those two chatting away conspiratorially. 

"What are you two whispering about?"  

"P! Nothing much ,we were just checking out our favorite musician's latest video." Ta replied, looking at me with a grin. I peered over and saw an English popstar. 

"I thought I was your favorite?"

"Owhhh P!" 

I laughed as I sat down and introduced myself to Nene who just looked starstruck. Dinner was a very fun affair with these two. Ta excused himself to go to the toilet and I took the opportunity to speak with Nene.

"Nene.. I heard that.."

"It's ok P. Ta told me already. I am sorry if I made things awkward for you."

"You did not. I am sorry though for not being able to return your feelings."

"Do not be silly P. It is ok. I am glad you still can speak with me so comfortably. Thank you, na. I really am such a huge fan of you and it is really nice to be able to meet you in person." 

"I will be holding a concert soon. I will send along a pair of tickets plus vip passes for you, ok? Come see me na."

Nene's eyes opened big at that and she squealed in delight! She held onto my hand and thanked me excitedly which is when Ta came back. He saw her holding onto my hands and my grin and his face just dropped mildly before he plastered a smile back but I had caught it. I just looked at him briefly before focusing my attention on Nene. Time passed and Nene was picked up by a friend as they were going clubbing. She invited us but we passed up the offer. I offered to send Ta home and he nodded. 

The ride home was quiet. Midway; I looked at Ta. 

"Why are you so quiet?"

"Just tired, P. Thank you for dinner and for paying though."

"My pleasure. I am just happy to have met you both."

Ta nodded. 

"I saw Nene holding your hands earlier. Looks like you guys became friends."

"Isn't that good? She was thrilled to receive VIP passes for my upcoming concert."

"Owh?"

"Yes. What do you think it was?"

Ta fell silent. 

"Nothing P. I guess I thought too much."

"Don't you think so? And you don't want to clarify either."

"P..."

I kept quiet, just focusing on the ride home. We reached Ta's apartment. He got out of the car and looked into it to thank me.

"Thank you for the ride, P. Do you want to come up?'

"It's ok Ta. I should get going."

"You have no work tomorrow though. Why don't you come in and we can game together?"

"It's fine...."

Ta sighed softly. 

"Cant you come in? I wish to speak with you. Please?"

I finally nodded. I went to park my car and walked up to Ta who was waiting for me. We went up to his place and he got me a beer before settling down with one himself. We drank in silence for a bit before Ta started speaking.

"I am sorry P. I don't know why but recently I realized I get very uncomfortable or jealous when I see someone else paying attention to you. I keep wanting to speak to you or just hang out with you and its confusing me. I also love hanging out with the rest but I am not affected when they hang out with others. But you...I don't like it when I see you with others. Seeing you with Nene really annoyed me and though I know you are not straight. I couldn't help but worry, what if Nene made you fall for her? I know I sound so silly.. 

I kept quiet, just listening to Ta. It sounded like he was growing feelings for me. But he was straight, wasn't he? Just as that thought flitted into my head, I heard Ta speak.

"But I am straight P. So, why do I feel that way? I shouldn't, right?"

I sighed inwardly as I knew he was confused. I did not know if it was right for me to add onto his confusion. I gripped my hands as I looked at him.

"It is ok, Ta. You and I have grown closer so naturally you tend to feel a little protective of me. But over time, you realize you feel the same way towards me as you do towards Barcode, Mile and the rest. We became very close very quickly so it is natural to be confused. Do not read too much into it, na?"

Ta turned to look at me when I said that. He blinked his eyes rapidly hearing my words as a frown settled over his face. Before he could say anything more, I jumped in. 

"Let's drink up and its time for you to show me how to play that game that I am so terrible at, na? That's what you promised!" I chattered gaily and Ta, caught up with my infectious smile and words, nodded in agreement. We downed our beers and got right into gaming. We kept at it until around 3am when finally, I decided to head home. But Ta held onto my hand. I looked at him as he gripped it tightly.

"Stay for the night, P. It is late as it is."

"Ta..."

"Shhh, no more arguments." I fell silent as Ta pressed one finger against my lips and pulled me closer to him. 

We only had 1 beer. No one was drunk, We both exactly knew what the other was doing. So ask me, why did I not stop Ta as he leaned in to kiss me softly on my lips?
