A/N: What if Todd Manning is the person behind Pikeman and he ordered Valentin Cassidine to target Cyrus Renault (a possible family vendetta between Victor Lord and Cyrus Renault), but Valentin goes rogue with John Brennan and John "Jagger" Cates -tying Jason Morgan in the mix - to target Sonny Corinthos instead?
John Brennan is rushed from Pentonville to General Hospital after being shot in his cell when the guards do an inmate check.
Anna and Valentin are in the middle of an argument when she accuses him of being the one behind Pikeman when Todd Manning shows up, "Valentin, we need to talk!"
"Can't you see I'm in the middle of a discussion, Todd?"
"Ms. DeVane, would you mind leaving us alone?" Todd asks politely.
"No, Mr. Manning, go right ahead. I'm done with him, for now!" Anna says as she walks away to leave him to Todd Manning.
"Now, Valentin, what's the meaning of your going rogue behind my back?" Todd demands.

"I had my orders to target Sonny Corinthos, Mr. Manning." Valentin insists.
"No, your orders were to leave Corinthos alone and go after Cyrus Renault!"
"Why go after Renault when he has changed and even turned his life over to the Lord!" Valentin reminded him.
"Pfft!" Todd hissed. "Do you really believe that story, Valentin? It's the oldest trick in the book for inmates looking to be released from inmates!"
"I'm telling you Corinthos is the one you want! He gets away with his crimes with his dimpled smile and his heart-of-gold actions in giving money to charities!"
"So, you, Brennan, and Jagger, er, John Cates, hired Jason Morgan to work as a mercenary to target Corinthos!" Todd said in anger. "Now Sonny is hot in the collar because he feels like he's been betrayed!"
"That's because I had his meds altered."
"What did you do that for?"
"I had my reasons!" Valentin said.
"And I had my reasons for you going after Renault!" Todd said. "Your new orders are to fix the mess you started with Corinthos before all breaks loose!"
"It may be too late!" Valentin says looking at a notification on his phone. "Brennan has been shot in his cell?"
"Now you've done it, Valentin! You've set Corinthos off and he's going after the wrong people!" Todd said before walking away, hiding the fact that he was the one who shot Brennan!
"If you want something done right, you must do it yourself!" Todd said bitter that his orders were ignored by Brennan and Valentin.
No one would know his true motives for going after Cyrus Renault – for ordering Anthony Zaccara to bring Starr, Cole, and Hope to him. if it wasn't for Johnny' bravery in shooting out Anthony's tires, Starr, Cole, and Hope managed to get out before the car went over the embankment and is now in witness protection from Cyrus Renault!
