claire wakes up to a headache inducing noise. her alarm continues to beep as she takes a minute to register the fact that she's awake. she groans as she stretches her arm out from it's very comfortable position to turn off the alarm. she picks up her phone to check the time and it reads 6:00am. great. she forgot to turn off her school alarm. she ignores it and goes back to sleep until her phone starts to ring. it's not the annoying sound of an alarm, but it's playing break by alex g.
her heart drops at the mere sound of that song. no hate to alex g whatsoever. she loves alex, but she set that song as matt's ringtone so that she would never miss one of his calls. she hesitates to pick up the call, but she thinks it would be rude to ignore someone's call on purpose.
she sighs as she answers and puts the phone to her ear.
"hello?" she says in a sleepy voice. "hey it's matt" a beat of silence passes for only a second but it feels like four years. "um what's up?" claire asks trying to fill the air. "oh uh i was wondering if you wanted to come over today? i mean you don't have to if you don't want to but we miss you over here." matt awkwardly chuckles after rambling. though she is very hesitant on the request, she's always going to be a people pleaser. "yeah ok sure." she hears matt's sigh of relief after her long awaited response. "um okay cool. i'll pick you up at around 1230." she's about to say 'okay' and hang up until she gets curious. "hey matt?" "hm?" he responds quickly. "how'd you know i'd be awake? i mean no one is awake at this time during summer." "oh you always forget to turn off your alarm during summer so i knew that you'd be awake." he says it like it's nothing but little does he know that it makes her heart flutter that he remembers such small details.
before she can say anything matt quickly says that he's going back to sleep and says his goodbyes and hangs up. she decides to go back to sleep as well. it's usually pretty easy to fall asleep but there's something keeping her awake. she knows exactly what it is. matt.
she ends up falling asleep after scrolling on tiktok for about an hour while she rots away in her bed.
