"Where? Where?" Everyone at the meeting asked, voices rising with confusion and panic.
"Someone took a sli—" Elijah began to explain, but his voice trailed off as he noticed Micah standing nearby. He looked up at him, unsure if he should continue.
"Who's that?" Elijah pointed at Jocelyn, who was sitting comfortably on Micah's shoulders. "I'm babysitting the neighbor's kid!" Micah called out proudly, grinning as Jocelyn giggled.
"You guys don't know Jocelyn?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "Micah, I thought you told them!"
"I thought YOU told them!" Micah shot back, looking bewildered as he pointed at me.
"Okay!" Elijah shrugged, clearly trying to refocus the group. "Someone took a slice out of the pumpkin pie!" He slammed his hands on the table, getting everyone's attention. "But only the middle part!"
Everyone gasped collectively. "Anyone sus?" Daniel asked, looking around suspiciously.
"Reds sus!" Britney shouted, slamming her hand down on the table with a smirk that seemed almost too satisfied.
"Aha! You finally came to your senses! Red is suuu..." Judah started excitedly, but stopped suddenly when he noticed something. I nudged him and pointed to his onesie, realizing the problem. "Ahhh! You stole my colour?!" Judah shouted, wide-eyed and incredulous.
"Yep," Britney nodded, not missing a beat.
"Guys... I think I'm sus," Judah said, his voice suddenly full of worry as he glanced around at the others.
"No no. Nooo. Judah," we all reassured him.
"Just because you're red doesn't mean you're sus," Elijah explained kindly, trying to calm him down.
"Maybe you're right," Judah said, nodding as though he was starting to calm down. But then his eyes narrowed, and he pointed dramatically at Britney. "Britney's sus!!!" he shouted, slamming his hand on the table again.
"Nooo! Okay, Judah!" We all groaned in unison, exasperated but amused.
"Alright, there's not enough evidence. So I say we skip," Shiloh explained thoughtfully.
"Skip. Skip. Skip." People repeated the suggestion as they skipped their turn. "Skip." Jocelyn said from Micah's shoulders. I smiled up at her as Judah, however, pointed straight at Britney.
"Alright, everybody, Mom gave us each a list of tasks to do at the cabin. So get 'em done," Shiloh said as she handed out the task cards, trying to steer the group toward some productivity.
"And remember, there are still two imposters!" Elijah warned with a serious tone.
"Only two??" Daniel smiled, looking a little too excited for the challenge.
"Haha! We got this!!" Micah laughed, clearly ready for action.
"It's gonna be easy!" Daniel and Micah exclaimed in unison as they fist-bumped. "Whooo!" They cheered as they ran off, their energy infectious.
Shiloh and I quickly ran off together, leaving Elijah behind. I looked back, and sure enough, Elijah was glancing left and right, making sure nobody was sneaking up on him. Then, he too bolted off in the same direction. I smiled; he always seemed to do that when I wasn't looking, as if checking for danger.
"Check your keys, everyone!" We reached the door, checking our keys to make sure everyone had theirs before heading out. At that moment, a familiar black onesie appeared through the crowd.
"Comin' through!" Josiah called, gently pushing past me, not paying much attention to the chaos around him.
"Josiah?!" I exclaimed, surprised to see him.
