Honey.

I stood outside the gate scared to enter the taunting compound. St Mary’s. More like bloody Mary. After so many weeks out of school I was none the willing to go back. I puffed out and looked behind me. Lamar’s mum had gone already, our relationships had not improved one bit, but if anything grown colder and uncomfortable. I turned back to face the front confronting my fears, I wrenched the gate open with such force it startled me, and walked towards the main office.

‘Hello’ I whispered.

‘Good morning young lady, name please’

‘Honey, honey Taylor-Bentley’

‘…Ah here we are Honey, here’s your pass you can make it to the end of period 1.’

‘Thanks Miss’

‘Have a lovely day honey’ she cheerfully beamed. I smiled back hesitantly. It was almost impossible not to her smile was contagious. So I was now in a good as I moved steadily to my maths class. I raised my hand slowly as I reached the front of the classroom door and knock 3 precise times.

‘Come in’

I entered the room shyly keeping the small smile on my features.

‘Hello Miss’

‘ah, honey, welcome back, take a seat anywhere you can find one sit down and take out your maths book you have a lot to catch up with’ I looked around the room automatically seeking for Gerald. To my surprise he was sitting at the back, secondly he was surrounded by people talking and laughing with him. To my utter astonishment, he had become hot, like super-hot – Justin Combs hot!

‘Hey honey, come here’ Gerald shouted telling Troy to move at the same time. ‘You ite babe’

‘Erm yeah you’ve changed’ I said truly shocked.

‘Yeah ahaha, I realised when you went I needed to mingle because I noticed I would never get a tutor, and somehow it ended up like this’ he shrugged smiling widely.

‘You look amazing seriously’ I stated blushing slightly at the fact he still remembered that I didn’t tutor him like I had promised.

‘Yeah, thanks, I started going gym, watch my pecks though’ he lifted up his shirt showing toned beginnings of a fine hard set 6 packs.

‘Wow, literally’ I smiled. We carried on catching up until Miss Green chastised us; it seemed that I had missed a lot. I looked around the group trying to spot Charmaine. I was confused when I couldn’t find her and came to the conclusion that she wasn’t in school. As I turned back to the front a movement in my spherical vision caught my eye. Alone in Gerald previous chair sat Charmaine with her back and shoulders hunched. How I ironic I thought deeply, if someone had told me a year ago that Gerald would become popular whilst Charmaine was not I would have scoffed and laughed in their face – confidently.

‘Yeah, I heard she beat Hayden then Jayden in the same day, what a SLAG!’ laughed a familiar voice bringing me out of my personal thoughts. Rae’melle sat 2 chairs away from my right – so net to Gerald- talking to the popular girls. That really astounded me, how had Rae’melle overcome Charmaine’s status coming from just being ‘the pretty new girl.’ I laughed silently to myself ‘karma’s a bitch.’ I sighed and focused back on Miss Green I couldn’t afford to miss out on any more work. Being in year 10 I had some of my exams coming up. At the end of the lesson I gathered all my belongings and made my way to the front of the class.
