Honey.
We lay lounging in the burning sun.
‘Today is so beautiful’ she cooed
I turned back around and smiled at her agreeing, ‘it really is.’
We had just come back from shopping and Rae’melle invited me to her house, we had gone shopping again this week after failing to find appropriate dress’ the week before, and during that time we had really bonded. So as I was saying we were in Rae’melle’s house, in her garden to be exact. She was sunbathing while I had my heated feet swishing in the refreshing pool. We had arrived a few minutes earlier after buying a body-con dress and stilettoes each. She was literally my best friend now, over-ruling the bond i had with Charmaine. We had been drifting apart ever since I had started talking to Rae’melle, I didn’t even think she acknowledged me anymore. She just drifted in and out of rooms like a lost soul only conversing with Lamar which slightly peeved me off.
‘Honey?!’ Rae’melle called raising her ray bans from her face.
‘Oh sorry, I was miles away’
‘Yeah, I guessed. Did you hear what I said?’
‘No what?’
‘I think I fancy Lamar’
‘Hmm is it’ I replied uninterested.
‘Yeah-’ I droned off not really wanting to hear about her feelings for a boy I couldn’t get. No doubt Lamar would like her, she was absolutely beautiful (no homo) there was no contest in who he would pick between us. With shoulder length jet black coolie hair and caramel glowing skin, a perfect hourglass figure and lovely personality I was seriously jealous-
‘Honey! I swear something is up with you today’
‘Sorry, I just can’t concentrate with this weather’
‘Yeah, I guess so’ she sighed
An hour later, having decided that our skin had been replenished enough, we headed back inside for a drink.
‘Yeah like I was saying earlier I think I may tell him I like him’ she sighed sipping on her cool Rubicon.
‘Tell who’ I asked playing dumb purposefully.
‘Lamar duh honey where have you been today’
‘Right here obviously’ I giggled nervously
‘Yeah so, should I?’ she looked confused and worried which was shocking due to her usually loud confident nature.
‘Yeah absolutely go for it’ I smiled fakery putting on a cheery voice
I had given up on Lamar, he didn’t seem to care about that one fateful moment we had shared, and I didn’t even think he remembered, after that day I had set out to make sure he felt uncomfortable in his own home. However that plan hadn’t panned out as well as I thought it would have. He had become best buds with Charmaine and felt the need to undermine me. Patronise me. He even had the audacity to say ‘hi’ and smirked at me to me once in a while. As far as I knew, I hated him! ‘No you don’t you liar’ said my conscience. I agreed.
‘Are you staying over tonight?’
‘I don’t know’ I said, I was caught between the idea of time to think, but the daunting feeling of Lamar’s ever there presence haunted me.
