Honey.
So it had been a month and I was back at school. Funny how people could make a big impact on lives. I always had this weight on my shoulders. Though I was all smile on the outside I was barely containing my feeling on the in. I really knew it was getting to me the day my form tutor pulled me aside for a ‘private chat’.
‘How are you honey?’
‘Fine Ms’
‘Are you sure?’
‘Positive’
‘I’m not so sure Honey, all the teachers have been complaining to how your grades are slacking, you can’t afford that Honey. You know its June. If I am correct you have your history test the week after next?’
‘Yes Ms, I’m sure there’s nothing I can’t handle I’ve just fallen back in work. I’ll catch up promise’ I smiled as believably as I could manage and turned to walk out but was stopped in my tracks.
‘Erm Honey, I’m not finished with you young lady’
‘Sorry yes Ms’ I smiled ruefully
‘Yes, I have been worried and in concern of your welfare I have decided to sign you up for school drama-therapy/physiatrist’
The smile I had been upholding on my face slipped right off. This was not in the slightest amusing. ‘What? You did this without my permission?’
‘I was looking out for you, I am well aware you have lost a very close friend. I’m sure these sessions will help you in the long run. You will be thanking me’
‘But Ms I have revision and practise, how am I supposed to do all my deeds within the day if we finish school at 4.30’
‘Don’t worry Honey everything has been sorted out. You will have all your lessons except period 5 every day. Friday will be for extra tutoring on the lessons you miss instead of your free period. Honey, this is for the best and its only for the next 2 weeks, it will all be back to normal after’ she smiled affectionately. But I was literally burning inside. I couldn’t even utter a word, and she used that to her advantage ushering me rapidly to the door. ‘Hurry up to break, there’s only 5 minutes left of it’
Without another word or glance I flounced out childishly. I knew that what she was doing was for good intentions but I just couldn’t fool myself to be positive about that. I knew I was slacking and I think this was bound to happen sooner rather than later. Rather than go to break I went to my next lesson seeing as there was no point wondering around the playground without a friend in the world. This was not meant to happen. My party was meant to be a positive thing to talk about, everyone would coo over how amazing it was, and how no future party could top it. But no. It was the complete opposite, now all I heard was the mention of Charmaine’s name now again but a month had passed and everyone seemed to be moving on. How smashing –note the sarcasm.
The end of the day came quickly and as usual I walked out with Kyle by my side as we made small talk. Arriving upon the bus stop he saw a few friends and diverted from the conversation we had to something so ‘boy-like’ I decided to zone out. Approximately 20 minutes later we arrived at his stop and I got up without so much as a glance to him. I heard him get up behind me bidding his friends goodbye before following me down the stairs.
‘What wrong Honey?’
‘Nothing’
‘As usual’ I heard him scorn
