Honey.

The journey in the car seemed tense. It was as if Lamar didn’t want to ask about the money. And that was good because I didn’t know anything about it. So we were sitting gin the car on the way to west end. Lamar wasn’t talking and there was a heavy silence that hung in the air. I had finally had enough and reached my hand out to turn on the radio.

‘What do you think you’re doing?’ Lamar snapped not even taking his eyes off the road.

‘Erm turning on the radio’

‘I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that, didn’t you hear the rule: do not touch ANYTHING?’

‘Sorry must’ve slipped my mind’

‘Well make it slip back in’

‘Alright mate, keep you wig on’ there was another silence.

‘I’m waiting’

I stared at him strangely ‘what are you waiting for?’

‘For you to ask to switch on the radio’

‘Oh, can you switch it on then’

‘Sorry?’

‘Can you-‘

‘Magic word?’

‘Prick?’

‘Guess again’ and then we launched into a full frontal guessing game. At least it filled the awful silence. In the end he switched on the radio and my tune came on. I was singing silently to myself. We reached a traffic light at one point and I realised he was watching me intently.  I pulled a face and stared right back at him.

‘What?’ I asked getting annoyed

‘I never knew you could sing’ he stared off thoughtfully.

‘There is a lot you don’t and won’t know about me’ I let the innuendo hang in the air. And silence fell again all except the music still playing. 15 minutes later and we had arrived on Oxford Street. I hadn’t been shopping in sooo long! Like ever since my mum had died which was a few years earlier. Firstly we visited h & m then Primark, JD, Clarks, HMV, Superdrug, River Island, Selfridges, Jane Norman etc. We even had to go Nike town for Lamar. I didn’t know why though. If you sold all the shoes he owned the money could feed 1/10 of the poverty a country. While we were there he met yet another lady friend and began talking to her (in a flirtatious way I bet!) I just sighed and looked for a few trainers for myself. At the end of that shopping trip I alone had spent nearly £500. I had never even thought I hadn’t even owed a penny a month ago. What made me smile all the more was the fact that I had so much money left. Finally Lamar walked up to me and we made our way to the car. I literally had a million bags both in mine and Lamar’s hands. I turned to look at him grinning. My smile faltered as I saw him on the phone laughing.

‘Who are you talking to?’ I mouthed

‘Shush’ he mouthed back. What an imbecile didn’t he register I hadn’t even said a word. I scrunched up my face and walked faster towards the car. I wasn’t jealous I was just annoyed that I had no one to talk to. I kissed my teeth and opened the car door to sit down without taking off my shoes or covering my seat, ha that would show him. A few seconds later he came and covered his seat and followed on by sitting down.
