Shades of Black

Chapter 2

When I reached home, I was obviously going to use my bedroom window.
I took my skates off and climbed up slowly. Mum was obviously sleeping, how could I sleep in this new annoying and big ass house.
I quickly went to the bathroom and took the wet clothes off. Before I took my pants off, I realized I had a cut on the side of my stomach. I cursed, grabbing the first aid kit.
How couldn't I even notice I was cut? After cleaning my wound, I dried my hair. Which obviously took more than enough time.

"Rise and shine..." I heard mum's voice echoing through my ears.
I woke and sighed, "For God's sake, it's 5:00am. Could I just sleep?"
I covered my head but she pulled the duvet off me. "We're both going for a run. Plus it's your first day in highschool, bumble bee."
I remembered that fact and I got more shivers.

We both jogged down the street, it was massive cold.
"I hope you are not getting involved in your stuff again." I trying to catch my breath and adjusting my hoodie.
She stopped running and smiled at me, "I won't this time round, if I do...maybe once." I clenched teeth together.
"Mum no, I'm tired. I can't keep doing this, I've got school to focus on." I ran off pissed, and back home.
I took a cold shower and picked clothes from my wardrobe.
Brown cargo pants, a beige shirt and a black hoodie to match my black boots.

I went down stairs for breakfast only to find mum in a fancy azure dress, slightly above her knees with a slit to the side.
I sat quietly, she broke the silence. "Hey are sure your wearing that to school?"
I nodded, "Athena, you're just scared of your first day in highschool. Don't..."
I cut her off before she could finish. "Could we please go now?"
I wanted to reassure her school wasn't the problem here but she was too stubborn.

On reaching school, it wasn't what I had expected. I didn't expect a public school to be this fancy. Aside that, I didn't expect my mum to say anything but when I was moving out she held my shoulder. "Athena, good luck." She smiled but I returned a pout to her.

I was directed to the principal's office. I hesitantly knocked, I had her say come in.
"Athena Dynevor right? I'm Principal Rosa Santos."
She gave me a few forms to fill and assigned me to Math class.

I put my hood over my head before knocking.
"Come in..." As I was taking an empty seat, the teacher called me back.
"Introduce yourself, I'm Mr. Smith... your math teacher." He was a tall smiley guy with round spectacles.
"Hey, I'm Athena Dynevor." A random girl from behind shouted, "Hello, we get to ask you questions." I stood and waited for the questions.

"Alright, what's your height, like in feet. I could help you buy height boosters." Everyone laughed, I just smiled at her, "Hey, what's the length of your lips, like in inches. I could help you buy a rubber band to stop them from running." Everyone's lips curved with an 'O', whoever she was, I didn't care.
I wasn't even that short, I was 5'5 feet. I took my seat, picked my warfare framed spects as Mr. Smith struggled to tell everyone to stop murmuring.
The spects were for my short sightedness and light issues, which weren't so serious.

Before I knew it, the boring math session had ended. I kept my spects, as I was heading out two girls approached me.
One with a smile and the other with an 'I don't care face.'
"Hello, I'm Katrod Rodriguez, call me Kat, by the way you have a slight accent. Are you from Africa?" I said hello to both of them, correcting Kat. "Yes I'm." The other introduced herself as Mia Rodriguez, I guess they were siblings. They both looked classy but Kat had the good girl classy and Mia had the bad girl classy attitude.

Kat was curvy, had orange hair, freckles and green eyes that reminded me of someone.

At the cafeteria, Kat made hilarious jokes and we laughed through out. "Girl, you just gave Tatiana the right comeback. But she won't let it slide so easily." As we were eating, two other people joined us. "Whose this new black beauty?" The Asian looking guy asked, Kat introduced me to both of them. He was Kyle but told me to call him Kai, then the girl was Archie.
I didn't know I was going to make friends in my first day but this was quite interesting. Kat told them of how I roasted so called Tatiana. I saw a slim tall girl approaching us with a tray, oh, it was Tatiana. She reached us and everyone ignored her, she put her tray on the table and held a milk box as though she was going to drink it.

I completely ignored her, instead, she walked to me and poured the milk down my hair. I clenched my fists on the table, she bent and whispered in my ear, "Next time be careful, black girl." She pushed my head to the table. I remained numb, Kat left the table and started arguing with her. "Tatiana, behave she's new here don't..." Tatiana pushed Kat to the ground, making her hit her head.

We all stood up to check on Kat, I rushed to Tatiana and pulled her back. As I was going slap her, a strong hand held mine. My eyes met a pair of steel blue ones. I tried loosening from this random guys grip but he was too strong.
"Relax lioness!" When he let go, I pushed him away, only to realize he was in basketball attire.
I pointed up at him, squinting my eyes. "Don't ever touch me again."
I left the cafeteria infuriated. Kat came following me, "Athena wait, I can help you."
I stood waiting for her to talk, she walked me to the girls toilets but they were all in use, the locker rooms were under renovation.

I just had a bad feeling about highschool from the beginning. On my first day, I was already in some kind of trouble. Kat told me the tall guy was actually Tatiana's boyfriend.
Kat suggested, "We can use the boys' locker rooms, the ones who do sports are out."
We both left for the locker rooms.
