I smiled as my husband , Elijah walked through the door. We've been together 5 years , we were dating for two years and we've been married for 3 years. I'm 24 and he's 28.

He kissed me.

Elijah - how was your day?

Geneva - it was fine. I had a very large cake order for I had to close down for the day. How was work?

I own a small bakery and I do a lot of catering events.  Cooking has always been therapeutic for me so I cook regularly and me and Elijah rarely eat out.

Elijah - work was work.

Geneva - you say that everyday.

Elijah - baby I'm a security guard. Unfortunately it's not exciting unless somebody steals or does some fuck shit. I got paid to sit on my ass all day.

Geneva - your mama called today. Said she needed you to stop by her place tomorrow.

Elijah - you sound irritated

Geneva - because your mom doesn't like me and we've been together 5 years now. I just don't feel apart of the family.

Elijah - she'll come around , she just stuck in the past

Geneva - I just feel like a person , off the street when it comes to her.

Elijah - I'm sorry baby.

Geneva - I mean what is she gonna do when we finally decide to have kids.

Elijah - kids?

Geneva - that's in our future isn't it?

Elijah - the couple of years , yeah

Geneva - okay then.

Elijah - until then we'll just practice.

Geneva - you are a mess.

Elijah - a mess you married.

He smiled.

Elijah - I'm going to shower, you want to join?

Geneva - no.

Elijah - you want me to draw you a bath?

Geneva - yeah

Elijah - okay.

He walked off.

Elijah's mom hasn't liked me from the beginning of our relationship. She's still stuck on his ex wife Amara.  They were high school sweethearts and got married young but divorced before me and Elijah got together.  I really try my hardest with his family but none of them except me and the only reason I do that is because I don't speak to my family. I left home at 15  and did any and everything to keep a roof over my head and  and money in my pocket. It's a lot I'm not proud of.  

I walked out to the back patio and let our dog , Rocky in to eat.

I rubbed his back , causing him to lick my hand.

Elijah had Rocky  before me and him got together , he was actually a gift from his ex wife. I get along better with the dog than his entire family but Elijah told me that Rocky was never fond of Amara and would growl at her all the time.

Elijah  - Neva

Rocky barked at him.

Elijah - chill out. Don't bark at me.

Geneva - babe your food is in the microwave. Ima go check the mail.

I went out to the mail box and a white van rode past  slowly. I quickly grabbed the mail and walked back in the house. I know I shouldn't assume anything but that van gives off creepy energy. It has rode past our house like that for some weeks now and when I brought it up to Elijah , he just brushed it off.

I went back in the house.
