Naina's pov.
I got dressed in the lehenga we selected earlier, put on the jewelleries and let the make up artist and hairstylist do their job. My make up is very light and minimal, nothing too loud. And I left my hair open in soft curls.
"Should I put this or you want to do it yourself?" The make up artist ask me through the mirror, box of vermilion in her hand.
"I'll do it." I take the box and a small flat brush from her and fill the middle partition of my hair by myself. It feels so surreal, like I should feel happy and warm, since women put this on because they love their husband and wants to show it to the world but I don't feel the same way, if anything this is just another form of responsibility that I can't wait to be done with.
I stand up and look myself in the full length mirror.
"Here." One of the helper comes to me with the heels.
"No please, I'll wear them myself."
I walk to the couch and sit down, taking the shoes away from her before she could help me. I put on the heels, they are pretty high but comfortable. I need all the extra inches because rudra is so tall. I don't want to feel small infront of him.
"Which one would you like to carry?" She shows me two clutches that goes amazing with my dress.
"The one on the left."
She hands it to me and I stash my phone in it with some wipes and make up for touch up if needed.
The door opens and Shreya peep inside. "Hey, can I come in?"
"Yes yes, come in."
She walks inside in her beautiful pastel blue lehenga looking beautiful.
"Gosh, you look absolutely perfect." She gushes as she take in my look.
"Thanks. And you look beautiful yourself, I love your hairstyle." She has her hair half up and half down in a beautiful hair do.
"Thanks." She blushes. "I just came to check up on you, we are leaving for the venue, guests have started arriving. Bhai will pick you up once he is done with his work." I give her a nod.
"And also.." She holds the door open and a maid walks inside with food trolley containing a glass filled with juice and a bowl of fruit salad. "Eat something, the event will be very tiring."
She leaves and takes everyone else with her, leaving me alone in the room. I take the glass and use the straw to drink the juice. Since everyone is gone, I don't want to spill anything on my dress.
I take out my phone from my clutch and open the gallery. I scroll through the pictures and stop at the one in which surbhi di and I have face masks on and it's taken at two in the morning. It was a fun night. It was before her engagement, before she lost the spark in her eyes. How could I not see it? I thought she was just sad because things are changing for her, if I had known what she was going through I would have helped her.
Now she is somewhere alone. Is she scared? Hurt? Is she even safe? Is that guy with her, the father of her child? And how is she going to stay hidden while she's pregnant?
I hate our world. If we were somewhere else, someplace where people had less money and power, it would have been a little easy for her to hide. People she is hiding from has all the means in this world to find her.
The lock of the door turns and I stiffen immediately. I'm alone in the strange house.
The door opens and rudra's large frame appears in front of me. He looks at my face then roams his eyes on my body, openly checking me out. I try not to squirm under his gaze. He looks up at my face and asks, "Are you ready to go?"
