It's all wrong.

It was all wrong, Mal thought.

Was that some kind of joke? Make-up, wigs, cameras.

What's all this?

Try and defeat this, your Majesty.

Where did that come from? She didn't recognize that voice, or did she?

She woke up. Screaming.

"Hey hey hey. It's all right, you're all right." She definitely recognized that voice. That sweet and calming voice.

"Ben!" her heart beating faster than it usually did.

"It's okay Mal. Come here." He sat beside her in bed, already dressed up and ready for the day. His crown sat still on his soft, honey-colored hair. He hugged her and gave her a kiss on her forehead. "What's up with these bad dreams uh? You've been having them nonstop this week. Why don't we go somewhere tomorrow? We could go on a trip at the enchanted lake, it could relax you a bit, no?" he had that beautiful smile and she felt more relaxed already.

But yeah, her bad dreams. Was she having them for a week? Only? It felt like an eternity. Every night. Every night her brain just couldn't let her sleep peacefully. Was she anxious about her mother? No. She stopped having those nightmares just a little bit over a month ago. That was something different. Almost like...

No.

It couldn't.

She stopped having visions after they opened up the barrier, and that was over a year and a half ago. Because there wasn't any more danger anymore. Not after Maleficent coming to Auradon, nor after Uma, and especially, not after Audrey. The barrier was open and everyone lived in peace. Most of the villains had made peace with the heroes and now just lived a normal, (almost) happy life. And the most dangerous ones were held in custody, free of doing kind of whatever they wanted but they had to attend goodness lessons. Like the Remedial Goodness class Fairy Godmother held for the VKs, the parents had something similar. Some attended voluntarily, while others were... obligated. But it worked.

"Yeah, a trip to the Enchanted Lake seems perfect. As long as you bring strawberries and I can make a drawing of you while I eat them." They both laughed, and she tried to get those nightmares out of her head. 'Cause that's what they were.

Just nightmares.

Right?

"Your Majesty?" Lumière stood there, waiting for an answer. "Queen Mal?"

Hearing her own name, Mal looked up and finally realized where she was. "Oh, erm, yeah? Sorry I got... distracted" she chuckled.

"I was saying, your father requests your presence at the, you know, Underworld? He sends this letter" the ex-candelabrum said, passing an envelope to Mal.

She looked at the envelope, wondering why her father hadn't called her. He must've been busy, she guessed. But he had time to write and send a letter? Wasn't picking up the phone and dialing her number... quicker? But, then again, it was her father we were talking about. Obviously, Hades couldn't be bothered since he still thought they lived without technology. "This isn't ancient Greece anymore dad" she had said to him, more than once. But still.

Hey there, Queen of Auradon

This is your father speaking, requesting your presence at... ugh who am I kidding.

Mali, I need to complain about the management of my Underworld in the past 20 or so years.

Seriously? I lost count of the souls I lost in there. They were here and now they're not. Fucking hell, it's become a mad house in here. I think some souls might be missing, get back to me when you can.
