Their relationship was full of love and adoration. Nothing but sweet nothings whispered in her ear, beautiful promises of what their life would become when they finished their studies. Love letters he hid in her bag, and her favorite flowers laid out on her bed after coming back from hanging out with her friends. His gorgeous, brown eyes that seemed to be glued onto her everywhere she went.
That was all in the past. Now, there would be no new additions to their relationship. Mattheo wouldn't speak to her that often, and never looked back when she walked away. Y/N now strongly believed that he didn't love her how he used to. She sometimes went as far as thinking he didn't even love her at all. The way he touched her thigh didn't feel genuine anymore, it felt as though he was trying to complete a job that he wanted to resign from.
His place in her heart was starting to shrink by the day, as she began to overthink more and more. Every single word that fell from his mouth felt like a lie to her and she wasn't quite sure why.
Her mood significantly went down, she wouldn't eat as much anymore. Her heartbeat would speed up in fear, even if the problem was extremely minor. Y/N struggles to bring up her true feelings about the situation to Mattheo. What would happen if she admitted that she felt as though he didn't love her anymore? What would happen if she professed that she doesn't think she loves him anymore?
That his lack of showing his emotions is taking a toll on her for the worst? Sure, communication is key, but sometimes, the truth can take you onto a road that isn't smooth to ride. But nonetheless, she would ensure the relationship doesn't fall into crumbles, and she would continue to provide Mattheo her love and support, even if it's slowly slipping away.
Even if she gave him the only pieces of love she has left.

The cycle repeated. Mattheo would talk to her — only a bit — in the classes they had together. He would smile and laugh in the back with his friends, but when it came to her, it wasn't the smile he used to give her that appeared on his face.
It looked...forced. But, she was too scared to speak to him. Too scared to know the outcome when she spoke about her true feelings to him. It wasn't a healthy decision, she knew that. Y/N just couldn't bring herself to tell him the truth. She felt scared of the vulnerability she would have to show when explaining it.
Until, she decided she had enough. She was going to talk to Mattheo, whether she liked it or not. Y/N walked into his dorm, where she overheard him saying that he was going to study. Truthfully, she doubted he was studying. He was already so intelligent, and he didn't even try.
Y/N knocked softly on the door and called out his name. She heard quick shuffling and quiet footsteps, and in a matter of two seconds, Mattheo opened the door. He looked down at her, a quality she always flushed at.
"Hey." He spoke, walking out of the way to let her in. Y/N nodded, walking inside his dorm. It was not in the best condition, but it never really was. Five boys lived here for the entire school year, she didn't really expect anything better. Mattheo closed the door behind him, looking down at her with a raised brow. "We need to talk."
At that, Mattheo's heart sped up. He prayed to whatever wizard god was up there that she didn't want to end the relationship. Mattheo knew he hadn't acted the same, but he didn't know how else to act. He's never really had a genuine and long-term relationship like this one, which is why he's been confused on what to do next.
What should he do? He thought she was happy, but it seems as though she wasn't. "Mattheo?" She called out again. His eyes shot up to meet hers, and that's when he realized that he'd been overthinking it. Maybe she was trying to talk to him about homework? Yeah, homework.
"Hm?"
An awkward silence followed, and Y/N looked at the floor. "Do...you still love me?" She mumbled, still not meeting his eyes. Mattheo's heart stopped, which was surprising since it was beating at a rapid pace. "I- Of course I still love you, Y/N."
She really, awfully, doubted that. Y/N sat down on his bed and sighed. "It just doesn't feel like that anymore. This..." She pointed at him, then at her. "Feels empty. I feel empty. For the past couple of weeks I sat there, leaving you alone while countless of thoughts roamed through my mind. We haven't gone on a date or even hung out in weeks, Mattheo. I don't even know how to get closer to you anymore. I feel like everytime I try, you move away." She explained, "I...I don't even know what we are anymore with all the time we've spent apart. And I completely understand a person can be busy, and I'm not asking for you to drop all your plans and priorities and studies. I'm just saying I think we should spend more time together. You don't even sit next to me in class anymore, or even in the Great Hall."
Mattheo felt as though his heart just broke. Did he really make her feel that way? Did he really make her feel as though she wasn't enough? He didn't have anything to say to that, and he felt awful. He wanted to hold her, and tell her she meant everything to him, but how? He had to say something, or the situation that he didn't even know he created wouldn't be solved. Mattheo ran his hand through his curls, sitting down beside her.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry that I made you feel that way. In all honesty, I thought you were alright with everything. I wanted to spend more time with the boys, since they were all complaining about how I haven't spent time with them together, so I agreed. I didn't know I was slowly distancing myself in the process, and for that, I'm so so sorry. I understand what you're saying about the spending time together, and I will. I'll do it for you, as long as you aren't feeling this way. I will go to whatever extent to fix this problem, baby, trust me." He explained, taking his hand in hers as he kissed her palm. Mattheo carefully traced the creases on her palm.
He took a breath has he prepared himself for what he was going to say. "I promise you I will fix this." Mattheo whispered, leaning in to kiss her cheek.
She smiled, the exchange between them filling some of the gaps she had felt moments before. Y/N was glad she could express her feelings to him. She was truly grateful to the boy in front of her, as he smiled, too.
