Adam woke suddenly to a harsh pain in his side. "OW! What the fucking shit-" His swears were cut off as his brain registered his surroundings. A pale-white man was looking disapprovingly down at him. A white top hat rested atop soft blonde hair. Adam figured it was safe to assume the pain was from getting kicked in the side. Beside the man, a taller but equally pale woman stared down at him in puzzlement. Adam immediately recognized the bastard and his spawn.

"Lucifer," he hissed with a glare. "Lucier's twit," he added, gaze unshifting as he shot daggers into Lucifer.

"Adam," Lucifer returned. It sounded more like a question. Refusing to let them look down on him, Adam stood and brought himself nose-to-nose with the princess of hell. Charlie took a cautious step back. "It really is you," Lucifer breathed after a skeptical moment. Charlie stayed unmoving in her spot, eyeing him like an obstacle in her path.

"Yeah, of fucking course it's me," Adam shot back. "How did you find me?" Venom practically dripped from his lips as he spoke, making his distaste for the pair more than clear. Lucifer's confident demeanor returned, but his words were still cautious like he was afraid to say the wrong thing.

"You're the one sleeping out here on the streets of my kingdom. Charlie and I are just here for a meeting." The king shrugged. Adam would've been offended by how casually he acted if it didn't mean admitting that he cared. They were literally fighting to the death a week ago. How dare he give him that unbothered face.

"We thought you were dead," Charlie finally blurted out. Adam turned to look at the girl and blinked. Her shocked expression had solidified to something foreign on her soft features: hate. It was understandable, he supposed, given his previous interactions with her; most notably slaughtering millions of her precious little sinners.

Despite the murderous glint in Charlie's eyes, neither royal were letting their powerful demonic sides show. Adam decided that was as good a sign as any they weren't planning to hurt him for now, so he just shrugged in response, his glare unwavering.

"Yeah, well, obviously not, babe," he retorted.

"But... I watched Nifty stab you."

"Yeah, I read about that. As if some bitch janitor could kill me." He rolled his eyes. "I'm heaven's fucking favorite." Lucifer then began to approach Adam. Adam found himself feeling suddenly vulnerable without his angelic powers, but he held his ground as the demon king stopped when they were mere inches apart. Lucifer reached up and grabbed onto one of Adam's horns, pulling him to eye level. Adam felt his breathing hitch at the sudden closeness but quickly cleared his mind of any... thoughts he had.

"How do you explain all this then," he asked in a gloating tone, reaching out with his other hand and twirling Adam's new tail around his finger. Adam could tell what he was alluding to, remembering the idea that had caused his meltdown the day before. He pulled away quickly, bumping into the doors behind him. The king laughed at the impact but Adam refused to falter in front of him.

"Oh, this?" He gestured to his body with a shit load of fake confidence. "This was just a mix-up. As soon as someone opens those goddamned doors and I can talk to someone upstairs, it'll all be cleared up."

"I thought 'angels don't make mistakes,'" Charlie spat, more malice in her voice than Adam thought she was capable of. This made Adam pause for a moment, recognizing the words he'd heard Lute once say to her.

"I don't, but obviously someone else did. How else do you explain it?"

Lucifer took another step forward, trapping Adam against the door, and pulled down the grey T-shirt to reveal the golden X over his heart. Adam hated the shit-eating grin that found a home on the king's face.
