SUMMARY: it's his birthday and you and his friends surprise him

percy was heading back home to his moms apartment, he had expected to just see his mom cooking or knitting or something but when he opened the door he found the lights turned off, a birthday cake in your hand and all his friends surrounding you.

"surprise!" you and everyone said in unison, as you held the strawberry cake and walked up to him you then whispered

"happy birthday. make a wish." he smiled softly and took the cake off your hands, shutting his eyes tightly and biting his lower lip he made a wish and blew all the candles out on first try.

everyone cheered and clapped for him and his cheeks turned a rosy red from all the unwanted attention, he thought it was only gonna be you, grover and annabeth. but everyone was here.

you guided him to sit down in this seat and made him wear a dumb ridiculous birthday hat, you made sure to take lotssss of pictures for when you need them in the future.

everyone started handing their gifts one by one, starting with grover who got him salted mixed nuts and a star wars lego set for them to build later.

annabeth was next and she got percy a poseidon related gift. he was veryyy thankful for all these gifts and could not stop saying thank you that night.

he also felt really guilty since they spent money on him and he didn't like that, your gift was last and when he got it he said,

"best for last." and shot a quick smile at you. his dimples were so cute.

when he peeled off the wrapping paper a note fell out, he picked it up and right when he was about to open it you stoped him.

"wait wait wait...! uh... read it when your alone?" you didn't want him to read it in front of all these people, what if someone saw?

he nodded and respected your wishes, he took the box and lifted the lid up.

inside the box laid a necklace, but it wasn't just any necklace. it was the necklace you had promised him, you made a promise to him when you guys were kids.

"hey you owe me for the ice cream!" percy said as he chased you around.

"okay fine dummy! hmm... i can make you a necklace! my mommy bought me new beads!"

"a necklace? but- but... that's for girls!" he said and you pushed him with your little hands

"shut up! no it's not! i'll make you a necklace with the rainbow beads but not pink because pink is for me."

he thought about it for a while then put his hand out "deal."

the necklace was exactly how you promised, it was an ordinary necklace but it had rainbow beads right in the middle, with no pink.

he thought only he remembered that, but turns out you have excellent memory as well.

you could see him analyzing and taking the entire thing in, his smile ever so faint and his jaw open ever so slightly.

"wow... this is- i mean... thank you. really. i'm just... speechless really." seeing him happy like his always made you happy, he was one of those people who had the best reactions towards presents.

you guys cut the cake, talked a little, played some games and everyone was slowly leaving as it got gradually darker outside.

"hey percy- uhm... do you think i could stay the night? my house is pretty far from here and uh... yeah. it's far from here."

for some reason he just laughed at your reasoning.

"i don't see why not. also, can i read your note now? pretty pleaseee? i've been dying for the last two hours or so."

you pushed him slightly in his shoulder "fine, dummy."

he pushed you back but always made sure never to do it too hard.

he looked around and then slowly his fingers glazed at the note and opened it.

the note was about 2 pages long, he was a bit startled when he first saw it but then read it.

it was so awkward for you since you had to just watch him read the note in silence, but it was also fun to see his cheeks turn red and his smile grow wider.

"y/n i... are you kidding me? this is amazing i couldn't have possibly asked for more... thank you. really. i mean it. thank you soo much... i- i really wanna give you a hug is that okay?"

"oh no yeah that's totally fine." you said really quickly and reassured him but he didn't hug you yet, he still seemed a little skeptical.

"are... you sure? what about your boyfriend?" oh god, he thought you and him were still dating.

you tried to hold in your laugh but couldn't. "did no one tell you the news? we broke up like a week ago..."

his body tensed up a bit for no reason.

"so... if i'm getting this right, your single?"

"and ready to mingle." you laughed at your own joke but he thought you were being for real.

"wait really?" his tone hopeful

"uh, that was a joke." you tapped your fingers and looked down awkwardly.

"oh right... sorry. can i hug you now?"

you didn't bother to say yes to that question again your pulled him in for a hug, and he was really good at hugging. he smelt nice, he felt soft and he was just generally better than average.

"thank you... y/n."
