Madisen and Noah unexpectedly wind up as roommates in Viña del Mar, Chile when Noah's host family drops out of the exchange program. Sweet, gorgeous and down-to-Earth Madisen is happy to share her living quarters with a familiar friend, unaware that Noah has harbored a massive crush on her for over a year. 

With his reserved and unemotional exterior, Noah manages to mask his ever-ripening feelings for Madisen, who is accustomed to ignoring and evading most male attention. Navigating cultural mishaps, communication challenges and an unfamiliar, somewhat disorganized university system together, the pair quickly grow close.

It's the year 2000, and Brooke Calloway is about to begin high school. She's pretty, confident and personable, with a mature internal compass that is not easily swayed. Observing her mildly rebellious older sister clash with their mother over the years has led Brooke to a firm moral stance when it comes to boys and dating. Eager to comply with family expectations, she plans to focus on academics, extracurriculars and friends during high school. The plan hits an unexpected bump when her hyper Jack Russell Terrier walks her directly onto the lawn of a cute neighbor boy up the road. 

Cameron Summerfield is heading into his sophomore year of high school, where he thrives academically and socially. Esteemed by teachers for his dedication to learning, he's also a typical adolescent boy who plays sports and loves to bum around his small town of Orange Grove on his bicycle. Unlike most of his peers, Cameron's not in a rush to dive into the pool of high school dating drama. 

A chance meeting with the unique neighbor girl from down the street, however, sparks an immediate connection. It's "like" at first sight. An immediate, mutual crush. Soulmates, if either of them believed in such nonsense. 

Brooke and Cameron embark on a beautiful friendship, discovering they are able to express just about anything and everything with unfiltered honesty. As things progress, the couple must grapple with the growing intensity of their emotional and physical feelings, while keeping the promises they have made to themselves. 

Both are committed to taking it slow, learning about intimacy with tenderness and restraint, writing their love story together one letter at a time.
