Rob glances across the table at the undiscovered beauty that he is slowly falling for. He tries to fight it and does not understand the feelings that he is experiencing because he has never felt them before. The moment he laid eyes on her, there was a spark in the back on his mind that was drawing him to her. At first, he thought it was just his determination to get the zombie venom, to end the zombies once and for all but over the past several weeks working with her... being in the same house with her, the feelings are only growing stronger. Kenzy has a strength to her that is undeniable and it makes him want to be stronger. She is brave and vulnerable at the same time and today he has developed a whole new respect for her. He knows he can never speak of his feelings to the team. He is supposed to be their fearless leader. He is supposed to take care of them. He cannot get caught up in feelings and emotions.
"What did I miss?" Hope asks as she takes her seat next to Rob.
"Not much." Rob's answer is short.
Before Hope can respond, the waiter returns with everyone's drinks. The rest of dinner is spent on more cheap, pointless conversation. Kenzy has picked up quickly on the fact that the team does not talk about zombies in public. They are smart and diligent in their work. They have structure and it is something she feels she needs in her life at this point.
They pull up to the farmhouse around 8pm, unload the car into the barn and then head into the house. Hope heads straight for the shower and Trojan retreats to his basement lair.
"Kenzy, you play any video games?" Max asks as they enter the living room.
"Max, I hardly doubt she plays games." Rob interrupts.
Kenzy glares at Rob's rude remark then back at Max. "I haven't played in years, but sure."
"Sweet." Max says and leads Kenzy to the couch in the living room. Kenzy sits next to him and he hands her a controller. Rob leans against the door frame with his arms crossed and watch the two playing the ridiculous game and laughing like idiots, secretly jealous that he was not invited to play.
Trojan stands next to Rob and clears his throat. "Spying, are we?"
Startled, Rob jumps. "What? No... I'm just watching.... What do you want?" He quickly changes the subject.
"I need to show you something."
Rob follows Trojan to the basement.
"I got an email from Harry." Trojan adds as he walks up to his computer and sits down.
"Is everything okay?" Rob asks as he leans over Trojan shoulder to look at the screen.
"I'm not sure." Trojan pulls up the email he received. "He sent me a map with these weird red marks. He's up in Lincoln, Nebraska and says they're desperate for help. Apparently, it's crawling with zombies up there." He opens an attachment that pulls up the map with the red marks that cover several of the towns on the map.
"Do you think those are outbreaks?" Rob asks.
"I don't know, man but if it is, it's bad."
"If he's asking for help all the way from Nebraska, he must be desperate. Where are the rest of the hunters in the network?" Rob runs his fingers through his head and worries the worst; they are losing hunters to the zombies.
"I don't know. Does this mean we're going to Nebraska?" Trojan looks up at Rob.
"Yep. Print out that map and send word out to the network in case Harry's word didn't get out." Rob heads up the stairs. He finds Hope in her room brushing her hair. "Meeting downstairs."
