The sun has begun to set on the horizon. The glows from the sun rays blend with the city lights causing streams of pink and orange to fade up into the dark sky. Kenzy looks up and notices the scarcity of stars and misses the country sky. She sits at the edge of the motel's pool with her feet submerged. She swishes her feet back and forth watches the ripple effect in the water grow larger as it moves away from her. In a way, it reminds her of her life.... Escaping her and she can never quite catch up with it.
1. "Is there room for one more?"
She looks up to see Rob standing next to her. "Sure." She says softly and he takes a seat to her right.
"What are you doing out here?" He asks as he dips his feet in the water.
"Just watching the stars." She answers with her eyes on the sky.
"You know they say people who spend a lot of time watching the sky are the ones who are the biggest dreamers." He tries to compliment her, not one of his best attributes.
Kenzy can feel her cheeks begin to blush and is grateful it is growing dark outside so he is unable to see the pinkness. "I don't know about a dreamer. It's just peaceful."
"Yea, it is."
"Do you like Max?" Rob bluntly spits out the question. He cannot beat around the bush any longer. It has been eating at him since Kenzy joined the group. The way she and Max interact with each other, the way they talk and can play video games for hours together; he cannot help but feel there is a connection between them.
"What?" His question stuns her and for a moment she does not know what else to say.
"It's no big deal if you do, Kenzy. I've just noticed the way you two act around each other. He wanted to ride with you on this trip. You asked him to stay in your room..." His voice trails off hoping Kenzy will stop him.
"Rob, why are you asking if it's no big deal?" She pries for a confession hoping for the immense satisfaction of him admitting his feelings for her.
"Well, I guess it's none of my business. I was just curious." Rob looks down at the water. Kenzy notices the discouragement in his face and it is answer enough for her.
"No, I don't like Max. He's a good friend to me, Rob. He's easy to talk to and he's comfortable to be around."
Rob keeps his eyes on the water. He refuses to look at Kenzy, worried he might do something he would regret. The way the moonlight dances off her eyes is enough to make any man weak. "Are you not comfortable with me?"
"If I wasn't, I wouldn't be on the team."
He just smiles.
"But you are intense, Rob." She adds.
"Is that a bad thing?" His eyes watch hers intently searching for an answer.
"No, we need that for the team. Max just has a softer side. He's a good friend and that's all I see him as."
Rob displays a flirtatious smile. "And how do you see me?" This is the first time, Rob has allowed himself to slightly open up to Kenzy like this and it causes his heart rate to rise. He hopes it doesn't backfire.
She smiles back. "I'll let you know... like I said, you're intense. I haven't quite figured you out." She nudges his shoulder.
The two admire each other for mere seconds until Rob leans in and presses his lips to hers. Immediately, a rush of adrenaline shoots through his veins. Kissing her is something he has wanted to do for a while and once he realizes she is not pushing him away, he moves closer to her. Placing his hand around the back of her neck, he holds her close, kissing her lips gently.
