Charlie lays next to his sister in front of her cabin looking at the night sky. Stars fill the atmosphere in beautiful glows of yellow and white and he takes in a deep breath, trying to soak up as much of the serenity as he can because he knows it will not last.
"What's on your mind, Charlie?" Theresa asks as she lays next to him on the cool, soft grass. The moment soothes her and fills her with a comfort that she does not want to let go of. She was separated from her little brother for months and the time apart from him was agonizing.
"I was realizing that I haven't felt this relaxed in a long time. I wish we could live like this."
"Me too, but there are still demons out there. It is our job to stop them."
"Why?" He sits up and looks at her. "Why is it our job to stop the demons?"
Theresa sits up, confused about Charlie's reaction. "It just is, Charlie. If we don't, innocent people will die."
"Well, I think it is bullshit that the responsibility of the world was placed on us." He begins picking off blades of grass in frustration.
"Charlie, listen to me." She takes his hands in hers. "I know our jobs suck and it is not fair but after this is all over, we save Kenzy and save the world from the demons, it will be worth it."
Charlie just smiles at his sister and as she rests her head on his shoulder, the two look out on the horizon. Both of them have doubts about what their futures hold but knowing that they have each other comforts them enough to keep them strong. They know Kenzy is a vital part to an evil plan. They do not know what that plan is but neither of them will stop until they find out.
Thinking about Kenzy causes a smile to stretch across Charlie's face. Only knowing her a short while, she has charmed him. He thinks of her as an undiscovered gem with a rough exterior. She acts guarded and tough but he is sure once she lets him in, he will get to see a beautiful, sensitive side of her. He has followed her for a few years, always staying a step behind and out of sight to make sure she is safe and so she has a chance to uncover her destiny for herself. Kenzy is destined for great things. She just doesn't know it yet.
"Let's get inside and pack up. We need to hit the road soon." Theresa's voice pulls him back to reality.
"Alright." Charlie hops up and then pulls Theresa to her feet and then the two retreat to the cabin.
Rummaging through the clutters of stuff, they begin packing bags quickly as they can.
Charlie looks around the chaos, overwhelmed with the job ahead and then looks at her. "Theresa, do you have the slightest clue as to what organization means?"
She laughs. "There's no such thing as an organized demon hunter."
Charlie grabs her hand. "Oh yeah? Follow me." He leads her outside to his truck and they climb into the bed. He opens the large steel toolbox and shows off his neatly placed tools. "See? This is what organization looks like."
Theresa mocks him. "I have more stuff than you. I'm the researcher in this team and I don't live out of my car."
"You have an excuse for everything." He jokes and Theresa playfully punches him before hopping out of the truck. They are about to head back in the house when they notice headlights coming up the gravel driveway.
"Who the hell could that be?" Theresa asks and they both immediately grab their demon knives from their back pockets. One thing being demon hunters has taught them is to keep their knives on them at all times.
