Iris never thought she would be the one who would, voluntarily and consciously, put herself in a position where she would have to help in the war, that was taken out of its grave on the 1st of September 1939.
But she also never thought she would have to live through war again, but the II World War walked inside not only her life, but inside thousands of lives with a slap right across their cheeks.
She put in her mind that if her parents weren't going to support her decision, she would and her morals were all she needed.
She still recalled during the first few months of war came and America got involved, she walked silently to the living room and expressed her desire to not be useless and give her young age a chance to be used adequately.
She had told both of her parents the news while her two year old brother slept peacefully upstairs.
She could still see her father's eyes that widened and her mother's eyes, obscured by tears because deep down in her motherly heart, she knew she could not forbid her daughter to do good and to do what she desired.
Her daughter was her half.
Iris then, did have the courage to volunteer and she was gladly accepted to get ready for training.
She hadn't expected to be trained in what she never would have thought to be her fields.
She had begun with medicine, what she required to know and what she required to do in life-threatening situations, especially if the injured had a chance to be saved.
And the more she trained and the harder she worked she achieved all she could to be submitted to help.
At first, Iris hadn't thought she would be in the air a lot, but she was wrong as she was the only one willing to do such a thing and for that she was praised for her bravery, for it was considered to be abnormal for a 'woman', especially for her age, being 25.

Yet, for her luck she had never been put in a position where she had to take over the plane.
