The group made their way to the car after a long flight. Richie, ever the child at heart, dashed ahead and called out. "Shotgun!" as he reached the passenger seat.
Lisa couldn't help but laugh at his antics. "Richie, you never change, do you?" she said, shaking her head.
Becky, sulking slightly,
"Fine, I'll sit in the back." She followed behind and settled into the backseat with her mother and Freen.
She let her mother get in first, then slid in next to Freen.
Lisa turned to them, "Is everyone comfortable back there?"
Becky's mother nodded, while Freen quietly reached for Becky's hand. Becky felt her heart skip a beat as Freen's fingers intertwined with her own. Freen gave her hand a gentle squeeze and a small smile, as if to say, "It's just us."
Becky's face flushed with warmth, and she carefully placed their joined hands in Freen's hoodie pocket, trying to hide the gesture from prying eyes. Freen chuckled softly, amused by Becky's bashfulness. She leaned her head against Becky's shoulder, closing her eyes, and Becky felt her heart racing.
Richie turned up the music, filling the car with upbeat tunes as they drove back home. Becky took a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves and relax her tense shoulder. Freen's presence beside her was both comforting and thrilling, and Becky knew she would cherish this moment forever. They stayed in that position until they reached Becky's apartment.
As they pulled into Becky's apartment complex, the group was still buzzing with energy from their playful car ride. Lisa expertly maneuvered the car into a parking spot.
Richie jumped out of the car, stretching his legs after the long drive. "Finally, we're here!" he exclaimed, already bounding towards the building.
Lisa chuckled, "Slow down, Richie." She turned to the others, "Shall we?"
The aroma of Lisa's cooking wafted through the air, making their stomachs growl in unison. They gathered around the dining table, where Lisa had set out a feast of comfort food. Richie dug in with gusto, while Becky's mother smiled, watching her daughter and friends enjoy the meal. Freen sat beside Becky, still holding her hand under the table.
As they ate, the conversation turned lively, with jokes and laughter filling the air. Becky's mother, however, had a few surprises up her sleeve. "You know, Becky was quite the little troublemaker when she was a kid," she said, a mischievous glint in her eye.Becky's face turned bright red as her mother launched into a story about how she had stolen their neighbor's fake teeth when she was just a mischievous six-year-old. "Mom, stop!" Becky pleaded, mortified. "That's so embarrassing!"
Freen, however, was in hysterics, her laughter echoing through the apartment. "I had no idea you were such a little scamp, Becky," she said, wiping tears from her eyes. "You're even more adorable than I thought."Becky playfully rolled her eyes, but couldn't help smiling at Freen's infectious laughter.
"I can just imagine little Becky being so mischievous."
Becky shook her head, a smile tugging at her lips. "I was a handful, that's for sure."
Her mother continued to regale them with stories of Becky's childhood antics, each one more embarrassing than the last. Freen listened with rapt attention, her eyes shining with amusement. As the evening wore on, Freen realized that she had never had so much fun with someone before. Becky, it seemed, was a treasure trove of surprises, and Freen was thrilled to be discovering them all.
As the meal came to an end, Becky's mother patted her hand, "I'm so glad you have such wonderful friends, Becky. And Freen," she added, giving the young woman a warm smile, "you are a lovely person. I'm happy to see Becky surrounded by such caring people."Freen felt a blush creep up her cheeks, "Thank you, Mrs. Becky's mom. You've raised an amazing daughter."Becky smiled, feeling grateful for the family and friends who had gathered around her table, sharing laughter, stories, and love.
