Bella's POV
"Get the door Daria!" "What? Why me? its your apartment!" she whisper yells back to me.
Dang it she's right.
I inch closer towards my door being slow as I can't see anything. I press my ear to the door and I don't hear anything. I slowly open my door and no one is there. "Who is it?" Daria asks as she slowly approaches me.
I open the door more and I just stare out into the hallway. There is a window at the end of the hallway and since my room is at the end it made it easy to see if anyone was right there.
I decide to peek out into the hallway and look down to see if I could see anyone. The moonlight got dimmer and dimmer as I looked down the long hallway that eventually lead to the elevator.
Something catches my eye as I look down the hallway. Or rather someone. A shadow quickly darts from the right side of the hallway to the left where the corner is that leads to the elevator.
I jump back inside and shut and lock the door. "What did you see?" Daria says as she watched me put a chair in front of the door for added protection.
"I saw a someone in the hallway and got scared thus I'm caging us in." I reply. She laughs. "Its an apartment complex Bella, there are a lot of people here you know..." "I'm surly aware of that but have you actually seen anyone in this freaking place before?" She goes quiet at that fact.
Daria's phone dings. Its from the landlord. Weird I didn't get a text...
"Did he say what's going on?" I ask her. She just stares at her phone in confusion while her phone lights up her face in the darkness. "Not really, he just asked 'where are you?'. Kinda weird." I furrow my eyebrows, why only text one of us and then ask such a weird question as that? I wonder in my head.
I decide to text Jeff myself and ask what is happening, but before I could my phone dies. Of course.
"Daria, my phone just passed away! Just text Jeff your at my place and then ask him what's going on with the power." I hope it gets resolved soon.
a few minutes go by when Jeff finally texts Daria back. "He says he wants some help with something in the lobby and he wants you to come and help him." Daria says as she turns to me. "Will you come with me? I don't want to walk through the halls alone in the dark since my phones dead and I don't have a normal flashlight here." I ask her.
We both unbarricade my door and head out to the hallway. I don't hear or see anyone else which is weird because you'd think there would be others wondering what's going on. Maybe there all asleep...probably not.
We make our way near the elevator where the emergency stairs were and make our way down there. The stairwell was gross, as you might imagine. There were also security cameras in the corners as well. We finally made it to the 1st floor and made our way to the front desk.
"I thought I sent Bella only." A rough, older, and seemingly annoyed voice spoke. Jeff.
"I didn't have a light source so I asked Daria to come with me." I explained to him wondering why he cared that I was with Daria.
He just hums in response and we sit in silence with the only light source coming from Daria's phone.
Wait was Jeff just sitting at his desk in the darkness the whole time? Weirdo.
"Well I guess you girls can go back upstairs, I actually figured out the problem, the power should be back on in no time." He tells us.
about 30 minutes later....
