I walked down the steps with wet hair and started to pull on a different shirt about thirty minutes later, after pretending to take a shower so that my father wouldn't know that I had been with Blue and Dr. Ren.
"How was your "shower," Dean?" Ryan asked from the steps and raised an eyebrow in question when I saw him. Amusement filled his eyes, and I held back an eye roll and scowled, pressing my lips into a thin line.
"Shut up, Ryan," I said and pulled my shirt all the way on, earning a snicker from my best friend. "Hey, Dad?" I asked and walked into the kitchen where my father and mother were located with my mother cooking something else while my father sat at the table. "Was there any news about the horse?"
"Well, he got a clean bill of health," my father said with a scowl on his face. He narrowed his eyes and folded his arms across his chest while he stared at them. "Were you there with them?"
"And why would I be there with them?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "You told me to stay away, so I stayed away."
"Mmmhmm." He slowly blinked and didn't seem to believe me while he looked at my mother with a raised eyebrow in question.
"He went to his room and stayed there for a bit before he decided to take a shower, Dear," my mother lied while she continued to cook something before she cleared her throat and shifted on her feet.
She turned to look at me and scowled with narrowed eyes, and I stared at her with wide innocent eyes. "And you need to dry your hair better," she scowled before she started to walk over to me. "Haven't I taught you nothing?"
"You have taught me enough, Mom," I saud, biting back a small laugh while I shook my head. "However, I don't listen."
"Un huh," she said and narrowed her eyes while she scowled. "Will you take care of that, Dean?" she asked and raised an eyebrow in question.
I bit back a small laugh and slowly nodded. "Ok," I said, clearing my throat to bite back another laugh. I started to walk toward the stairs again but stopped when my father cleared his throat.
Shit...
I bit back an annoyed sigh and opened my eyes while I looked at him. "Yes, Sir?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question while I stared at him.
My father scowled and narrowed his eyes while he studied me. "Did you go see the horse and talk with Dr. Ren?" he asked.
"No, Sir," I said and shook my head. I bit back an annoyed sigh and moved a hand through my hair while I pursed my lips in annoyance. "Why would you think that I would?"
My father slowly blinked, and I could tell that he didn't believe me. "Hmph." He pressed his lips to a thin line and didn't say another word while he looked between the two of us.
My mother bit back a small tsk and held back an eye roll before she shook her head and cleared her throat, looking at him. "Let him take care of his hair, Dear," she said and gestured for him to let me leave.
My father sighed and shook his head while he moved a hand through his hair. "Fine," he said and gestured for me to leave. "Go ahead and finish taking care of your hair, Dean. I am going to need you to help take care of the horses."
"Yes, Sir," I said and nodded, biting back a small sigh while I pursed my lips in annoyance.
"You are not allowed to be in the barn with Blue in. Is that understood?" my father asked while he narrowed his eyes and set his jaw.
"Steve!" my mother exclaimed, and my father instantly looked at her with an annoyed look on his face. She narrowed her eyes and scowled, folding her arms across her chest. "You said that he would be able to work with this horse for months now, Hun. What happened? What changed?"
