PERCY learned that he was lucky. As Luke helped him find a sword for him, he was stopped by some campers, a few he recognized from his own cabin and some unfamiliar ones from different cabins.
All of them asked him similar questions about how he didn't storm out in tears or something.
Luke laughed when he asked why he was being questioned like that.
"I suppose I should congratulate you" Luke said humorously as they both left the armory, unsuccessful on finding a blade that felt right in his arms. "You survived your first day of Amelia's rough welcoming"
Percy furrowed his eyebrows, "She's been nice" kinda, his mind corrected as he remembered that she tended to ignore his complaints a lot.
"Exactly" Luke smiled in amusement, "She's not nice to new campers. She usually starts with welcoming you to the daddy and mommy issues camp. Her words not mine. She's specially hard on those who want desperately their parents' approval, something she and most of us know is less likely to happen, ending with crushing your hopes on that ever happening"
Percy fell silent, swallowing the instinct to defend her because that picture Luke was setting of her wasn't the one he came across.
Amelia didn't seem bad to him, in fact she had answered most of the questions that brew in his mind. She didn't care if she was blunt about them, he didn't either as long as he got his answers. Maybe some part of what Luke was saying was right, she was sometimes hard on him whenever he asked about things regarding who his dad could be, but he had thick skin, whatever she said didn't affect him as much as he thought it would. He kinda liked having a different mindset around him. She also listened, well more like pretended she did but she was kind enough not to walk away from him. So, he didn't think she was that bad as everyone seemed to tell him she was.
He wasn't sure he was going to be believed though. He had experience with people not believing what he was saying.
"Maybe that's what I'm good at" Percy decided to sound cheerful, and sarcastic at the same time, "Surviving mean girls"
"Bring it on then, newbie"
Percy jumped slightly, whirling around to meet Amelia's dark eyes on him, sporting a smirk. He gulped slightly. Oh, so she heard him call her mean girl?
Amelia glanced past his shoulder towards Luke, "I take it back. I do want him as partner"
Luke sucked in a hiss through his teeth, placing a hand on Percy's shoulder, "Good luck"
Percy was slightly wide eyed as Luke walked away, and that's when the whispers began to ring in his ears.
"damn"
"Should we get a shroud for him at the ready?"
They all varied around the same thing; that Amelia was going to wipe the floor with him.
Maybe they weren't far off by calling her mean girl.
"Heh" Percy laughed nervously as he and Amelia stood face to face. "You'll go easy on me, right? It's my first class, after all"
"Why?" Amelia asked and he was 100% sure that she was genuinely amused at his expense, "You may be able to survive. That's your skill, isn't it?"
Yeah. He was screwed.
Apparently, Amelia was one of the best after Luke who was the best swordman in the last three hundred years, and he himself taught her everything he knew.
She had even beaten some of Ares' children, and they were supposed to be the best at war or something.
Still, Percy didn't back down from fighting her. Fighting against the best should give him enough training to become the best.
