Aziel leaned back in his chair staring at Darrien Euline, who remained silent. Aziel studied his body language and looked for any signs of distress. He took mental note of the way Darrien's hands were folded together, and how his leg was tapping nervously against the floor. Aziel was unfazed by it. Darrien could feel the weight of that gaze on him, Him having to come to the police station for questioning was already intimidating, and Aziel's silence made it worse.
"What happened at the 7 eleven between you, Killian and Ezrah Swift?" Aziel broke the silence.
"Aight so I had only 10 minutes left on my break and I needed to get gas and the line was long and they was just there talking to the cashier like there was nobody else in line. Only them. I was already frustrated cause I had to drive all the way home to bring my daughter her medicine and I live damn near 1 hour away from work. So now I only have 10 minutes left on break and I had to spend that time getting gas, so I didn't get to enjoy my break at all. I told them to just hurry up, I ain't come at them wrong I just said 'Man hurry up' but the son took offense to that simple ass shit and told me to shut the fuck up so we started going back and forth and nothing I was saying was getting through to them. Then the cashier finally told them to go and they left. I don't even know them niggas. I didn't even do anything. It wasn't that serious to me. After I got my gas I got in my car and went back to work."
"Aight." Aziel nodded. "You said you were on break. Tell me bout yo job. Where do you work?"
"Amazon warehouse on Boggy Creek." Darrien replied. "I work the evening to morning shift. I'm a forklift operator."
"You go home every time you're on break?"
Darrien shook his head, "Nah, Most of the time I just go sit somewhere and get something to eat. I just had to drive home this time cause my daughter wasn't feeling good and her mama wasn't home, so I had to bring her the medicine."
"So you ain't see Killian and Ezrah after that?"
Darrien shook his head. "Nah I ain't see them after that. I never even seen them before. I was just getting some gas. I don't have nothing to do with what happened to them." He took a deep breath. "I'm sorry that it all happened like that. But I swear, I had nothing to do with it."
"Did you speak to anyone about what happened at the gas station?" Aziel asked.
"No. Well, I told my wife the next morning, but that's all. By the time I got my gas, I was over it. That was all I wanted in the first place."
Aziel nodded, taking in his body language and the way his nervous demeanor still lingered. Darrien's hands remained folded together and his leg continued to tap nervously against the floor and he was avoiding making any eye contact with Aziel. "You nervous Darrien?" Aziel asked.
Darrien felt embarrassed as Aziel asked him about his nervousness, and he shifted in his seat uncomfortably. "Look I never been through anything like this before," he admitted. "I never been questioned by you guys at a police station before this, and I def never imagined I'd be getting questioned about something serious and something that got to do with people I don't even know. I'm just tryna get through this as best as I can but I swear, I had nothing to do with what happened to Killian and Ezrah. I swear to you."
