                             I Know The End

I gasped.

My eyes fluttered opened, adjusting to the stark whiteness of the room. Bright lights immediately assaulted my senses. White curtains surrounded me, blowing softly from what I think was caused by the vents. I recognized this room all too well, the nurses office. I've been here plenty of times to recognize the strong sent of antiseptic. But for some reason, today's visit felt unsettling.

My muscles protested as I tried to sit up straight in the bed, my attempt sent a sharp pain coursing through my stomach. I slowly moved the air that was in my face, tucking it behind my ears. I glanced around the empty room. Minutes went by without any sounds. I decided to get up and look around, I swung my legs over the side of the bed, my muscles tighten in pain as I moved. I slowly stood up, I focused on keeping my balance as dizziness engulfed my vision. I held onto the side of the bed for support.

It must've been way past school hours, there wasn't a single sound except the air vents that blew cold air. With every step I took, the more I winced in pain. Karissa and Jamie had taken it to a whole new level this year. I had been beaten before, but never like this. A few punches here and there weren't a surprise to me. But this? It's never happened before and it scared the hell out of me. It's like each year they get more and more violent.

"Hello?" My voice sounded foreign in my own ears. There was no response. I continued to walk towards the curtain that I assumed led to the exit, and before I could even reach it, it was pulled back. The nurse stood in front of me with a worried look etched on her face.

"Oh gosh, sit down honey, you need to rest some more." Came her rushed response, she guided me back to the bed.

"No, no I need to find my Mom, she was supposed to pick me up," I sat down on the bed, wincing when I moved to lay down.

"She's probably worrying where I am," dizziness still clouded my mind, I felt like I was finally waking up from a trance.

"Your Mom hasn't arrived yet, just sit tight and I'll grab you some water," she held my shoulders so I would attempt to stand back up. It worked because I made no move to stand up. She retrieved a bottle of water and a pack of crackers before returning back to my side. She handed them to me with a sympathetic smile.

I didn't return it, because the only thing on my mind was my Mom being so late. I had found the clock in the room, it read 4:00, school had ended at 2. What the hell? I reached for my phone in my pocket, my heart tighten when I saw the screen cracked.
