Chapter 1

(Evelynn)

Rain. It kept pouring down, rattling on the sidewalk. I loved the rain normally, but today was not the day to rain-just my luck. I sat in a coffee shop gazing out into the busy streets. I was pretty much broke, with a measly 1,000 dollars in my bank account to get me by. I scrolled through my email, praying that at least one of the companies that I interviewed for would get back to me. It wasn't easy, trying to be a singer. I've always had a dream to be a singer, but my parents didn't support me. Ding. I glance down. An email! From a company called Connected. I've never heard of it, and I'm pretty well versed in my company knowledge, so they can't be very big. They were located around here apparently, which was great for me. I checked Google Maps to get the walk time estimate. 30 minutes. "That's not too bad" I sighed. Thanking the barista, I left, ready to start my trek. I started to research this company, just so I was prepared if they asked me anything. I pulled up the website, scrolling.

"A new company? Interesting." I thought to myself. A little while later, I arrived and was just a little damp. I spotted a lady at the counter. "Hello!" I said

"Hi, and your name is?" She asked

"Evelynn Ambers, I'm here because of the email you sent me?"

"Oh! Ms. Ambers, we weren't expecting you so soon!" She said surprised. "Let me ring the boss to make sure he's free to talk to you."

"It's okay if he isn't-" I say. She just smiles at me, picks up a phone, and makes a call. I stand there awkwardly as she talks and finishes the call.

"Ms. Ambers, please go upstairs to floor 4, and the room to your right."

"Okay, thank you!" I smile sweetly at her. I use the elevator in the lobby and press the button. This building looks so spacious and modern. Ding! I get off at the 4th floor. And I went to the room to the right. There was a little sign that said, Christoper Stoen. I took a deep breath to collect myself before I went in. "Hello!" I say after I step in, waving shyly. I see a man sitting at a neat wooden desk. He seemed tall and had dark hair and eyes. He looked tired, but still greeted me with a sparkle in his eyes. "Ms. Ambers!" He said.

"Just call me Lynn!" I say matching his energy.

"Of course, then just call me Chris." I nod and wait for him to continue "So, since you're here, you probably got my email."

"I did."

"I've been scouting for another singer under my company, and I just happened to stumble upon your Instagram account." He smiles. "Your voice is angelic, and you look stunning." I blush at the compliment.

"You're too kind sir."

"I'm only speaking facts" he put his hands up like he was swearing on something. "If you'd like, I would like to help your talents get a chance to shine."

"No way..." I gasped beaming at him "You're joking" He just smiled as he motioned for me to sit down.

"Now, there are many things to go over when you take this job. First off, your schedule. I'll text that to you and also text you for any updates." I nod as he continues "And for your living situation?" He looks at me expectantly.

"Uhm about that... I've been staying at a friend's."

"Ah, okay. Well, I do have another rising star with me, and he lives in one of my houses, so you can just live there. Is that alright?" I nod. An hour passes, and I've signed contracts and received keys to the house, car keys, and a reassurance that all the clothes I'll need will be at the house. I drive to the address of the house, giddy with excitement. I pull up into the driveway and see a modern house with big windows, fairy lights, a pool, and flowers. "It's so stunning over here." I think I park the sleek hybrid in the driveway and go inside. The interior was so clean and organized, the kitchen being wide and spacious, connecting to the living room and patio. There was a gym and a bed/bath down here as well. I went upstairs, asking a maid there where my room was. She led me upstairs and showed me my room.

I thanked her and looked around the room. As promised, all the clothes I could ever need were in the closet. I sat on the bed, processing what just happened. I was so happy! My dreams had just come true. If I could, I would kiss the whole universe for my good luck. I decide to take a shower, throwing on white sweatpants and a light blue cropped hoodie.

I went downstairs to see if I could make anything to eat. Creeping down the stairs, I went to the kitchen when a voice said "Who's there?" "Oh, I completely forgot about the roommate situation..." I thought silently cursing myself

"Um, hi, I'm your new roommate." I turn around to face the voice and see a guy sitting on the island with a cup of water in his hand.

"Huh," he says looking me up and down "You're the new singer? Evelynn right? I'm Amari"

"Yeah, I'm so sorry if I bothered you or anything."

"Why are you sorry?" he says chuckling

"Uh, I don't know, sorry" My eyes widened at the mistake of saying sorry again. He just laughed and stood up to put his glass in the sink. He was tall. And good-looking. Damn, the universe was really on my side today.
