Leah POVIn.
Out.
In.
Out.
I can do this. It's just a small competition. Everyone who has tasted my food has said it's good. So it's good. I'll win. It'll be okay.
I looked at myself in the mirror. It'll be okay. I washed my hands and did a quick once over of my outfit to make sure I looked okay enough to go back to the sanctuary.
I wasn't sure what to wear to church. I've never been to church and neither has Liv or Mia. The only person that has was Liz and she said it's formal wear.
I didn't have much formal wear. Granted I never needed it until now. I wasn't big on dresses, I even tried on one of Ally's dresses before quickly realizing it wasn't for me.
Never has and never will be.
I left the bathroom and walked back to the sanctuary. Both Mia and Liv sat at the back bored out of their minds. I looked through the crowd for Liz. She sat in the middle row. She came in later than us with her grandmother and her baby cousins.
She had texted earlier that her stupid little cousin told her grandmother about today. I hummed and sat back in my seat.
According to Louise -the lady that picked the finalists- the winner will be announced during the ceremony. Why couldn't they have done it after? I have no fucking clue. Hearing the man go on and on about some job verse was excruciating.
"Sister Louise has picked the finalist competitors for the competition," a man started after taking the priest? Pastor? Deacon? I don't know but he took his spot.
I watched as three people pushed out three tables. The plates were all covered but it had a name card on each table. My table was on the left.
"The finalists are Holly Patterson, Gianna Grey and Leah Mclester. Please join us on the stage," he announced and it was followed by applaud.
I followed behind the brunette. We all stood by the table with our name cards. A lady and a guy walked up to us and picked up the metal that was covering the appetizer.
I looked over to it. Half of it was eating but it was eaten in a way where it wasn't noticeable and it still looked presentable.
The man cleared his throat and went on, "The third runner up for the best appetizer goes to Gianna Grey for her fruit charcuterie board."
My nerves sky rocketed. I could do with second place. I tried my best not to bite my lips and looked presentable in front of everyone.
After the applaud he went on, "The second runner up goes to Holly Patterson for her chicken Parmesan slider bake."
I won? I won? It's just the first of three sections but I won one?
My jaw was ajar as I looked to my friends they were cheering like crazy.
