"Leah, Olivia, Mia and I were all different. We all came from different backgrounds and had different stories but we were all each other had."
Relationships, friends with benefits, family, sex, cigarettes but most important they had each other.
After making sure everyone was ready I went back to the living room. Dad was surprisingly awake eating the breakfast I placed down for him.
He looked up at me once he noticed my presence, "You're a really good chef you know. You could be on one of those tv shows." He made weird waving motion with his fork.
I smiled leaning against the wall to look at him. He looked like the older version of Ally. His blonde hair was ruffled and he had a small beard.
"Thank you."
He looked to me, "Seriously are you going to become a chef?"
I shrugged looking to the door down the hall that was slightly opened causing small noises to spill in the living room.
"I can't. It's a lot of time. Sail is just five. I need to be here?" I looked to him.
His face mirrored a guilty expression, "Listen kid. I'm sorry about not being around. It's just with the three of you and with all the bills..."
He trailed off and I shook my head, "No no. Don't feel guilty. It's hard I know. I just want to be here for them."
He nodded, "You can't put your life on pause," he paused resting the plate on his lap, "I'll take fewer hours. Or I'll get a next job. One that'll allow me to spend more time with the girls so you can see about your cooking."
I shook my head, "Seriously though dad I want to help out."
Just in time both Ally and Sail walked out to the living room.
"Leah you're seventeen. See someone about your cooking," He gave me a serious look before looking to both girls. "You look so cute," he gushed at Sail before looking to Ally, "how's high school?"
I watched Ally shrug, "Not like tv that's for sure."
He chuckled. I stood from the wall going to for their bags and mine, "We have to go. Bye dad."
Ally took up the bottles and lunch bag before both her and Sail told dad good bye. I knocked on the door in front of mine. After a second Mia came out.
"How's Olivia getting to her interview?" I asked her.
"Liz is on her way to pick me up, what do you think?" Liv asked stepping fully in the hallway and did a spin. She was in a skirt and a button down top. Her hair was down in her usual fluffy waves and her face had light make up. Only mascara and lipgloss. "Elizabeth said to dress modest. Whatever the fuck that means."

Ally whistled, "You look so good."
I nodded agreeing with my little sister, "You really do. Tell us how the interview goes."
"Hey guys," another voice came.
We all turned and saw Liz. I think this is the first time we're seeing her in the mornings. Usually after school her uniform looked messy and unkept. Now however, she looked like an actual prep school girl.
"You're like an actual prep school kid," Mia said shocked.
She chuckled nervously, "Thank you?" She looked to Olivia, "Are you ready?"
She just reminded me that we were definitely running late. "Come on guys!" I hushered before telling the other two good bye.
When we reached the car Ally sat at the front unsurprising, while Mia sat at the back.
"What were you and dad talking about this morning?" She asked as I started the car.
I shrugged focusing on the road, "Nothing."
I could feel her eyes staring into my soul. Fuck did I forget how much she's growing up. Soon she'll be at the age where she rebels because she wants more attention.
"I mean it. It's nothing."
She sighed, "It didn't sound like nothing." I shrugged and she went on, "Okay well I can't babysit Sail tonight while you hang out with your friends."
I looked to her with a frown, "Why?"
"My friends asked if I'll be able to hang out with them after school."
"And that's how you decided to tell me?" I sighed and leaned back in the seat, "Just share me your location at all times." I didn't know what to do in that situation. She wasn't my child so I technically couldn't tell her what she can or can not do. I was still however in charge of her well-being so I had to make sure she stayed alive.
I dropped everyone at their respective places and made my way to the foods lab.
I sat beside Aliansa taking her attention away from her phone. She smiled at me, "Look at this picture of you." She turned her phone.
It was a picture of me in the cafeteria. I remember that day. We were studying something about pastry.
"How?" I whispered taking the phone to further inspect the picture. My hair looked way darker than it does in real like.
I looked to Al who had a grin on her face, "You looked so cute while explaining so I had to take a picture."
I smiled and handed back her phone.
I don't know but something about the way she looked and smiled made me feel uneasy. This is why I was always cautious about making new friends.
They most usually always develop feelings that I can't reciprocate. I always wished that I could love someone the way people say they can. I just can't and most times people don't understand that.
"My mom sent me this flyer. I think you'd be a very good candidate," she said turning her phone for me.
I read over the details. It was a small competition that the local church from the middle class was keeping. It was basically just a normal cooking competition. Who can cook the best three course meal.
I looked to the bottom looking for the deadline and the competition date. September 30 and October 5 respectively.
Dad did say I should get out more with my cook. A cooking competition would be the best way for that.
"Send me the flyer please?"
She nodded and did as told.
I have a week to prepare for a three course meal. Appetizers, entrée and dessert. Not that bad. Just a week.
