Chapter Thirty Five

My body jerked forward as he stopped short, parking the truck in front of his apartment building and removing his seatbelt faster than I could process what was going on. "Get out!" He rushed me and I groaned, unbuckling my belt and hopping out and into the pouring rain.

Ashton rushed to my side of the truck and made sure to close the door, quickly guiding me towards the entrance from behind me. His hand was on my lower back and he was almost shoving me, why was he so eager?

I stepped into the lobby, door closing behind us and drowning out the sound of the pouring rain but not completely. We were silent, the only noise was the one of wet shoes against the squeaky tiles while we walked to the elevator.

"Christ Ashton, would you relax?" I asked, letting out a tiny laugh at the end so I wouldn't sound like a complete bitch.

"I am relaxed."

"Sure." I rolled my eyes and looked up at the mirrored ceiling, it never gets old. No matter how many times I've rode this elevator, seeing my own reflection from up above just amazed me.

The elevator dinged open and I stepped out into the hall.

He shoved past me, running forward to make sure he got to the door before I did and then closed it. I was still only half way down the hall and my clothes were so heavy I could hardly walk, never mind run. So I took my time.

When I reached the door I noticed it was left open, just a tiny crack. Like when someone comes into your bedroom and leaves but doesn't close it all the way. I pushed it fully open, lights to his apartment still off which was weird because why is he in his house with the lights off?

I flicked on the light beside the front door and shouting came short after that. "HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!"

Four boys popped out from behind the kitchen counter, some shouting and the rest were blowing into their tiny party horns. I screamed slightly, jumping back at the sound that shocked me.

Michael threw a handful of paper confetti at me, small squares of red white and blue sticking onto my wet clothes and hair.

And then I realized what this was.

"Guys..." I felt myself smile, looking around at the streamers all along the ceiling of Ashton's apartment. Red white and blue balloons scattered the floor. I looked at him, he had one of those pointy party hats on as well as the rest of the boys.

"Whose idea was this?" I asked and his hand shot up along with a stupid grin.

"That would be me!" He walked over to me with open arms and gave me a hug, the damp clothes between us making a squishing sound.

"I blew up the balloons." Said Michael.

"Yeah! I hung up all those fucking streamers and nearly died in the process." Calum muttered.

"Well I went to go pick up the cake." Luke mumbled from behind me and I pulled away from Ash to look at him, a slight pout forming in his lips.

"There's cake too!? Oh you guys are fucking awesome." I walked over to the three of them, abandoning my boyfriend to wrap my arms around each of them at once.

They groaned, "Ew you're all wet! Get away." Calum squeezed out of my grip and I laughed while letting them free. I left stains all over their t-shirts but I honestly don't think any of them minded it.

"Can we have some right now?!" I asked excitedly, turning to look at Ashton for permission and he laughed.

"Since when do you need my consent?" He asked and he was right.
