Chapter 12

By the time we had been organised and toured through the beautiful castle, Sam and Melissa had already been escorted personally by two of the boys they had scoped out. But the surprising part is that Nikki had also gotten herself a boy as well, and he was just perfect for her. They had been walking around together, saying a few words here and there. I kept noticing them smiling at each other as they circled the little museum we were in. They were literally doing laps around the room and probably silently enjoying each other's company.

Someone nudged my shoulder, although it didn't feel intentional I still looked to see who it was.

He was quick to turn and apologise but his words stopped short, just sighing as I followed him away from the display wall.

I was just finishing one of many love stories when he had bumped me. The wall I was studying was full of framed love notes and documented love stories of past residents of this castle, all of noble descent. They made me realize how petty my actions were, I mean he did seem sincere, and just because I overheard one little thing doesn't mean much. It could have been a lie for all I know, and I never really gave him a chance to explain, I owe him at least that.

He led me to a hall where the rooms for the boys were. A girl being in this side of the castle was against the rules made by Mr. Binkley and he knew that. But he was still leading me down to the very end and into the last room. When the door was shut and he was sure there was no one in there he sat me down on the bed.

I watched, amused, as he paced the room. He was rubbing his hands together as his face contorted into a frustrated look I had never seen before. Yet he still looked so attractive. Right then I made a promise to myself that I would let him talk to me, and not cut him off any more!

After quite a while he brought his hands to his face, rubbed it violently and let out a frustrated grunt.

"Are you going to say something or what?" I asked. That really did it, he looked at me bewildered and put his hands down calmly.

"You seriously make me crazy. Every time I see you I go nuts, whether or not we are on good terms. I mean, that first week I was definitely a jerk, no doubt about it. But that Friday was so bad. There was no way I could apologise without looking like a tool in front of my friends. The guys were talking about you and how I should've stayed with you because they liked you. But Audrey is so nasty and controlling. She said she could ruin my chances of getting my scholarship, and she knew my dad would flip," he paused to run his hand through his hair and sit beside me.

"It's so cliche, everything about me and you. She seriously used to do this all the time, she told me that it helped her make her popular and it would help her get into a sorority if everyone loved her, pretending or not. When I told her it was mean she said she would do something to wreck my chances of a scholarship," he was laughing now and his expression was just as amused as mine.

"Do you know how she was gonna do it?" I finally asked, laughing as I said it.

"You know it didn't sound that stupid," his head was down and he was laughing.

"What was she going to do? Sleep with every college team coach? Well I was wrong about you," we finally made eye contact that wasn't awkward.

   "Wrong about what?" he asked.

"I thought for a second there that you were actually smart," I burst out laughing. I know I shouldn't laugh at what he said had hurt him but it seemed to lighten the mood.

It took a long time until we stopped laughing. We would look at each other and laugh harder than the time before. Finally we had silenced and I knew it was time for me to apologise.

"I'm sorry Josh. I'm such a drama queen and I was acting stupidly. I guess I just really liked you and didn't want it to end badly again. More like I wanted to be the one who didn't get hurt in the end. I know it's harsh but I hope you understand," I kept my gaze in my lap to avoid the angry look that had probably resurfaced.

Instead of yellling he responded softly, "It's fine, I totally get it,"

"Really," I looked up and was greeted by his wonderful grin. Then he inches closer and closer, his eyes flitting from my lips to my eyes as if to get reassurance. To answer I moved along with him, hastening the already steady closing of the gap between us. I closed my eyes and went for it, kissing him deeply. Since it was only my second time I had no idea if I was living up to his standards but he didn't seem to mind.
