He tried.
He really did try.
He questioned everybody, absolutely everybody in the hotel.
He even questioned Trophy, whom he knew had a dramatic history with Knife. 
He even questioned the Final 4 (now seemingly 3) about their missing contestant.
He even went through the documents of Hotel OJs inhabitants (with Paper's permission of course [which was way too difficult to obtain]).
He even binge-watched the entirety of II Season Two.
But no matter what he did,
He never did find anything. 
It was as if Knife had been completely erased, wiped out, deleted with no reference whatsoever left behind of him...
Except in Mephones memory.
He didn't understand why any of this was going on, why only he remembered. 
He really didn't want to go back to Headquarters.
Not when he was there.
....
but...
Mephone took a moment to connect some dots.
Knife disappeared.
Knife's traces had been removed.
So if Cobs' traces had been removed...
..
he wouldn't be there, would he..?
...
Oh dear.
Mephone thought over his priorities again and again, weighed his options over and over, trying to convince himself not to go.

Ugh...No...
Mephone got up from his bed where he was sitting, and headed to the door.
But he stopped when he got there.
...
I don't have to...
but the competition-
No one knows Knife exists. The competition can go on like that. Without him.
Are you insane!? Knife just disappeared out of nowhere. This is an emergency! You should call the cops-
There's no need to call them if there's no known record of him. The cops will just think you're insane...
