Blinding camera lights burst like fireworks. The paparazzi shouted questions—half of them intrusive, the rest pointless—but I held my pose, chin lifted, smile fixed.
“Indiyah! How’s Kenya?” someone called.
I didn’t dignify that with a response.
Instead, I waved at the crowd of flashing bulbs until a hand slid around my waist and guided me through the doors.
Inside, the world flipped. Dim, hazy light. Bass rumbling through the walls. Deli by Ice Spice pulsed through the speakers—loud enough to shake the floor but not the kind of chaos it’d be an hour from now. That’s exactly why I came early.
“Indiyah!”
A blur of orange hair lunged at me. I exhaled in relief—it was Soriya, my best friend.
“God, your tits look incredible,” she grinned, eyes wide with admiration.
I laughed. “Thanks, babe. Yours too.”
I wore a short, sleeveless blue dress—tightened at the waist so it actually did what it was supposed to—and a pair of clear heels that made me feel like walking glass. My curls were slick, waist-length perfection, thanks to my favorite hair girl.
“Come on, we’ve got a booth,” Soriya said, grabbing my hand.
We weaved through the growing crowd until we reached our corner—half the table already full of friends snapping selfies and taking shots of tequila.
Most of my “going-out” friends were influencers like me. I had others, of course—my real ones, my talk-shit ones, my work ones—but these were my content crew. Call us fake if you want, but at the end of the day, I’m the one paying my bills. If you’d like to start, be my guest.
“Indiyah!”
Yvonne, my redheaded menace of a friend, beamed up at me. Her lipstick glowed in the club’s warm light. “I have someone I need you to meet.”
“Yvonne,” I groaned, kissing her cheek, “I just got here. Please save the matchmaking until I’m at least two shots in.”
