Aaliyah

Salt water sprays on my face as I paddle out into the deep blue water. My heart races with excitement and anticipation as I scan the horizon for the perfect wave. Suddenly, I see it — a magnificent swell forming in the distance. I quickly paddle towards it, feeling the power of the ocean beneath me.

As I catch the wave, I feel weightless and alive, gliding effortlessly through the wave. The wind whips through my hair and I can feel the board beneath my feet, responding to my every movement as I carve through the water.

In this moment, I am in perfect harmony with the ocean. I can't help but let out a whoop of joy as I ride the wave until it breaks and I am immersed in the cool, refreshing water.

With a loud gasp, I break through the surface of the water, my hair completely soaked and sticking to my face. I catch sight of my board floating nearby and I quickly use my ankle strap to pull it closer. Climbing onto it, I feel the familiar wax texture as my hands grip the sides of my board. I lay down on my stomach and take a moment to catch my breath.

The afternoon sun is shining down on me, warming my back as I look out at the vast expanse of the ocean. I spot Savannah leisurely lying on her board, soaking up the warm sun. She has positioned herself behind where the waves break, allowing her to relax without being disturbed by the crashing water.

As I paddle towards her, the gentle lapping of the tide against my hands helps to propel me forward. I see her figure coming into focus. Her long, wet hair cascades down the sides of her surfboard and her eyes remain closed as she soaks up the sun. Water droplets glisten on her skin, indicating she jumped into the ocean to cool off.

The waves gently rock my board as I approach her, the rhythmic motion almost hypnotic. "Catch anything?" Savannah asks, her eyes remaining closed.

"Just a couple small ones, nothing too exciting," I answer as I use my hands to push myself up onto my surfboard to straddle it, my legs submerging in the water beneath me. The sun beats down on my face, warming my skin and filling me with a sense of contentment. I take a deep breath, inhaling the salty air and the scent of sunscreen from my skin.

Savannah sits up with a groan, "I think I have gotten enough sun for the day, want to head out?"

I nod in agreement, feeling content with the time I spent in the water. "Yeah, I'm ready."

We begin to paddle back, the waves pushing us closer to the shore. As we approach the sandy beach, I admire the gentle curve of the shoreline and the vibrant green trees lining the coast.

Once my board hits shallow water, I hop off and feel the cool water reach up to my thighs. I begin to trudge through it, the sand shifting beneath my feet with each step. I lift my surf board to my armpit, feeling the weight of it as I hold it close.

"Yo, Savannah!" I hear a deep, familiar voice call out, causing the both of us to turn our heads in surprise.

My heart starts racing when I see Rowan and River approaching us. I try to subtly back away, not wanting to face the memories of that night. But savannah grabs my arm, knowingly preventing my escape.
