Hiccup pov:

I stood stock still. Activity had come to a halt all around the camp. "Hey hey hey, take it easy, I'm a friend." I said moving slowly towards the new dragon, hand outstretched.

The dragon cocked its head slightly to the left, deep set green eyes studying my hand       intellectually, before nuzzling my hand. "There, there. Now-" I broke off in a gasp of surprise as it's skin suddenly changed colour to a deep reddish orange. "Changing colours? You blend in with you're environment... you must be a Changewing." I said realising what an advantage this would give us over Alvin.

"I have read about you in the book of dragons, but I've never seen one before..." I trailed off as I noticed that the green flame the Changewing had shot was still aflame and eating away at the ground. "Acid." Heather said coming up to me. "I'll have the Guardians of the Wing start collecting it in ceramic jars immediately." I nodded my approval and backed away from the Changewing.

The Changewing slowly blinked and then tore off into the night sky, but not before firing more acid onto a tree. The tree slowly started to burn, leaves curling as they slowly turned to ash until only a fine powder was left of the tree.

The Guardians of the Wing were busy collecting Changewing acid until I remembered the new recruits from Berk. I rushed over to the training grounds, stumbling over my own boots. The Twins were busy headbutting each other, Snotlout was snoring against a tree, helmet partially covering his eyes, and Fishlegs was, of course, reading a book.

Fishlegs yelped as I skidded into view, the Tuff paused long enough for Ruff to bowl him over with a chest charge. "ow ow ow, my EYE!" Tuff said clutching at his face. "I didn't even touch your eye!" Ruff said snappishly, puzzled. Snotlout woke up at the commotion, and seeing Heather and Astrid behind me immediately snapped to attention, now wide awake.

Astrid and Heather rolled their eyes simultaneously and went to go help Ruff and Tuff. After fumbling around for a few minutes, the clearing was ready, free of leaves and junk, to begin. "First lesson: how to properly take care of your dragon." The Twins and Snotlout hung their heads in boredom, but Fishlegs looked eager.

"WHEN do WE get our own dragons?!" Tuff demanded. "This is useless-" I cut Snotlout off with a sharp retort, "Useless yes, unless you want your new dragon to DIE from not being cared for properly!" Snotlout shut up and sat down promptly, eyes betraying his fear at not getting a dragon at all.

Two hours later...

"And that," I paused catching the rag Tuff threw me. "Is everything you need to know about taking care of your dragon. Not all dragons are the same, so each will need a different set of skills to look after it, if you have any questions or make a new discovery, come and talk to me." I finished. I clapped my hands together for dramatic effect. "Now, who wants to meet their new dragon?"

There was a mad scramble, Tuff and Ruff fighting with each other, clawing at each other like cats, Snotlout barged through them. "Whereisitwhereisit. Oh. My. THOR!" Snotlout yelled. "A Monstrous Nightmare! Snotlout Snotlout oi OI OI!" Tuff and Ruff both looked at it at them same time, Snotlout ran and gave the Monstrous Nightmare a hug, rubbing it's belly. "I promise I'll take good care of you Hookfang."

Fishlegs was already on top of a Gronckle doing circles above the group. "WhooOOOhOOOO! Yeah Meatlug!" Meanwhile the twins were staring open mouthed in awe at the double headed Hideous Zippleback. "Barf and Belch." Tuff and Ruff said in unison.
