Alice wouldn't stop asking me about Ember, so she suggested we meet up for a coffee at our favorite coffee shop that we always visit after classes to have a chat. I had to beg my parents to let me go, but since I was constantly studying, they said I deserved to go out for a bit.

I was really a prisoner.

The spring break was about to end, and while others were sad they'd have to return to college, I was beyond happy. I spent almost a whole month at home without ever going somewhere. My parents set it as a punishment, and I had to endure it, whether I wanted to or not.

Last week, Ember visited me three times, and she said it was the last time because she's starting to work at school. We didn't kiss; we didn't touch; we only studied. It was a funny twist since our time by the pool, where she almost fucked me. Last week, it looked like we never crossed the line, like we were strangers. We never laughed or joked. We didn't ask personal questions.

She was so cold to me that I almost cried when she left without saying anything more to me. That's when I realized she was playing with me. She said she never had such a relationship with the people she tutored, but she was lying. She used me and threw me away like I was garbage. Nothing more.

My mother tried to convince her to continue tutoring me for one more month, but she said she couldn't. And I was glad I didn't have to see her face again.

Until today.

As we walked to the coffee shop and found seats, ahead of us sat Ember with a woman with dark, long curls and an amazing face, dressed in a red flower dress.

"Maybe we should go to a different coffee shop," I whispered to Alice.

She raised an eyebrow at me. "Girl, why? We always go here, and they make the best coffee."

I grabbed her arms and pulled her to me. "Ember is here," I whispered urgently in her ear.

She gasped and immediately covered her mouth. "Now we definitely need to stay here." She grabbed my arm and pushed me to sit, then she took the seat across from me.

I had the best view of Ember, and so did she. I hated it. I didn't want to meet her or speak to her. I was still offended by her behavior toward me. She could've been a lot kinder to me. I gave her my body, and she simply took it without returning it. She never allowed me to touch her as she touched me.

I grabbed the coffee menu and hid my face behind it. I even heard her fucking voice. Could it get any worse?

Alice pushed down the coffee menu, and I met her judging brown eyes. "Don't act like a child! The woman is six years older, so you have to act like you don't care that you see her. Simply pretend she doesn't exist." She quietly said and looked through the menu.

I took a deep breath and focused solely on Alice and her pixie cut that was bleached from her brown hair to a white blond. She loves to change her hair a lot.

"I love your hair. It suits you." I said and smiled.

"Thank you, Dove. You know I can't stay with one hairstyle for too long." She roamed through her short hair and laughed. "I feel so free. You should try it one day."

I chuckled, just imagining myself with such a short length. I would cry for my long hair. I haven't cut them since last year, and they do need a trim.

The waitress finally came to take our order, and as Alice ordered her favorite Americano and me my cinnamon coffee, Ember glanced our way. My heart stopped for a second. I had to take a very deep breath into my lungs.

Alice's hand reached for mine and squeezed it. "Just act normal, Dove. You can't look hurt."

And she was right. Even though she was my first everything, I acted like we were a couple, which we were not. We were just having fun, and that's about it.
