I stared at the TV, the spoon I was holding stuck in mid-air. As I listened to the news on the TV. My mother and father also froze in place.

Last night, a few teenagers were holding a party. For some time last night. This morning all 49 teenagers were found dead. Except for one student named, Matt Nightingale who was lucky to be found alive. Although the cause of death is still unknown most of the parents are still in shock...

"Astrid, Finnish up or you'll be late for school." my mom gently rubbed my shoulder. Now I wasn't even hungry anymore.
I grabbed my bag and my mother took me to school.

We stopped in front of the school driveway.

"Are you gonna be okay?"

I nodded. She gave me a tiny hug and I got out. I waved goodbye and walked into the school. My friends... They're all dead. Something about this doesn't feel real to me.

I went to my homeroom class which only had twelve students. I took a seat a stacked out my books. The door opened and Matt entered his head down. He took the seat next to mine. Which made my hair on my body stand up. What's this now too?

The teacher came into class, taking a seat behind his desk. The class is still dead silent. No one said anything. You could even forget you're not alone in here.

Then the question lingered in my mind. If Matt was the only one who survived, he must know what had happened to other kids. Right?

I took out a piece of paper and wrote something on it. I threw the tiny piece of paper onto his table. I watched from the side of my eyes as he hesitated before unwrapping the paper.
He pulled out a pen and wrote something back. He tapped my shoulder instead of throwing the paper. I took the paper and read it.

I didn't do anything

Was his reply to my What did you do to them? Question.

I crumpled up the paper. What does he mean he didn't do anything? That's exactly something a suspect would say or not? I guess it's time for Detective Astrid again. Don't remember when was the last time I played detective. But this is serious, no games.

Once it was lunch. I pulled Matt into a corner. The action caught him by surprise, which didn't give him enough time to fight back.
I pushed him against the wall.

"The hell?!"

"Shut it" I hissed, gripping his black hoodie which he shouldn't even be wearing with the school uniform.

"What do you want, Astrid?"
Hearing my name come out of his mouth sent tingles down my spine.

"You know what I want. I want to know what you did to my friends"

"If it's something about last night, then I have no clue about anything"

"Liar"

He stared at me. His eyes traveled up and down. He took my wrist and pulled my hand away.

"Fine, I'm gonna be real honest with you. Okay?"
He switched up real quick, moving so I was now pressed up against the wall. His hand holding my jaw.

"Yes, I killed them. Happy? You figured it out. Not a surprise. Don't even dare think to tell anyone about this, I won't hesitate to kill you" he whispered into my ear. He gave me a last glare before letting go of my face and walking away.
And to think I have a crush on him. Now what, I don't know much. But just thinking of how he killed 49 people... I'm not about to test my luck, just not yet.
