Author's POV:

Noting the strange magic activity in the forest, the ride to Islivaria became quiet as wind. Nayeon, Y/N, and Minju were on high alert while Momo continued to pretend she was still asleep.

Minutes passed by and suddenly, Momo perked up. "Wait-- stop the car." Her quiet yet authoritative command made Minju stop the horses.

"Car?" Nayeon murmured, confused.

"Short for carriage," Y/N whispered back.

"Ohhh...." Nayeon stopped. Then smacked the immortal's head. "It's not!?"

Y/N brushed off Nayeon's big handed smack and looked at the elf who she assumed had just woken up. "What is it, Momo?"

Momo's ears twitched again. She heard the rustling of the leaves somewhere nearby. "There's something... going on." She hopped down from the carriage.

Y/N followed. It was common knowledge that elves had good hearing and if Momo sensed something, it was worth investigating.

Momo took a few steps forward, her ears twitching intensely, then suddenly she straightened up and laughed nervously.

The twitching of her ears stopped. "Oh, nevermind. Just my imagination, hehe!"

Nayeon and Y/N exchanged a skeptical glance but decided to go along with it. They both knew Momo could be jumpy at times.

"Well, since we're stopped," Nayeon began, trying to lighten the mood, "how about we talk about what we'll do when we get to Islivaria? There's still a few days until the entrance exam."

"I heard there's this amazing bakery near the academy," Minju chimed in.

"Oh, a bakery?" Momo said, her face lighting up. "I love pastries! What's their specialty?"

"They have this incredible honey cake that people line up for hours to get," the driver replied enthusiastically.

Y/N smiled, grateful for the normalcy of the conversation. "I could go for some honey cake right about now."
