As Mr Clarke began his lecture on the human brain, Jordan tried to keep his ears fully open and his eyes at least half open. He usually loved hearing Mr Clarke talk - the middle aged man was the only one who could actually make him concentrate in class - but the Xanax/Codeine combination of the previous night had worked a little too well, causing Jordan to oversleep. Luckily, Robin got him out of bed, thinking he was just being lazier than usual. How he'd biked to school that day was a pretty huge miracle.. considering he'd almost gotten hit by a Camaro once he'd finally made it to the school grounds.
Currently, Jordan had his head resting on his right hand as the boy tried to pay as much attention as he could. Unfortunately, this was Jordan Carter Buckley [ ;) ].. his attention never stayed in one place for too long if it wasn't music related. His eyes slowly drifted toward Maya who was sitting directly to his right and even she seemed to be paying full attention..
Maya of all people paying attention in science class was definitely something special. This was the same girl who'd nearly started a riot once to stop the teachers from giving out homework.
Right in front of Maya was Corey who, like Jordan expected, was completely zoned out. Jordan tried not to smile as Corey didn't even try to hide his extreme boredom at every word that came from Mr Clarke.
Right in front of Corey was Mike, paying close attention, much like Will, Dustin, Lucas and Sam were. Though, he couldn't exactly tell because he could only see the back of Sam's head whenever Justin Zimmerman moved out of the way, as Justin was placed right between the two with Sam in front of him and Jordan behind him.
Jordan didn't need a prophet to tell him that Sam loved that sitting arrangement as she'd had an almost crippling crush on Justin for literally ages. It was both amusing and concerning to him how easily Justin could affect Sam's behaviour, especially since sometimes Justin's intentions were hard to read according to her. Jordan didn't exactly have a problem with Justin himself, but his experience with popular kids at this school had taught him a few good lessons. Plus, Sam had assured him that Justin was nothing like that.
He just really hoped she didn't hurt herself.
Jordan's musing was cut short by the door bursting open. He reluctantly lifted his eyes to see who'd walked in and they landed on a girl with red hair walking in, followed by Principal Coleman.
"Ah," Mr Clarke stopped his lecture to look at them. "This must be our new student!"
"Indeed it is!" Principal Coleman said. "all yours"
As soon as the principal left, the girl tried to walk towards an empty seat, only to be stopped by Mr Clark before she could get far.
"Alright," The man gestured for her to stop. "you don't get away that easy.. come on up, don't be shy"
The girl walked back to the front of the class. Jordan could tell from her expression that she would rather be anywhere but that classroom.
'Same,bro.. same'
"Jordan, drum roll please" Mr Clarke requested.
"Do I have to?" Jordan asked in a tired voice, head still in his hand. He usually loved this but today was just not the day. Unfortunately, Mr Clarke sent him a nod, signalling it was necessary.
With a sigh, Jordan closed his textbook, pulled out a pair of pencils, twirled the one in his right hand by reflex and provided a drumroll, tapping the book rapidly.
"Class, please welcome, all the way from sunny California.. the newest passenger to join us on our curiosity voyage... Maxine!"
Jordan immediately stopped drumming, but something piqued his interest.
