8: Will vs. Fear

After coming back to Earth, Y/n heard his ring beep. Hector was obviously causing some trouble, and he knew he had to stop him before dealing with Parallax. His eyes changed colors yet again as his mask appeared. Hector was at Ferris Aircraft, and the bad thing was he was using the one Y/n cared about more than anything to get to him. Parallax finally made his way to Earth's atmosphere, determined to find the Lantern who bares the ring of Abin Sur and devour him and his whole world. Y/n comes flying into the building looking for Hector, who was sitting in the control room on a wheelchair. He lands on the ground, looking around for Hector, but sees Carol floating in front of him.

Hector: [Y/n raises ring; wheels in] I wouldn't do that. Look closely.

Y/n did as he was told, seeing a needle floating right next to Carol's neck. The syringe had his blood in it, which meant he was willing to infect Carol in order to stop Y/n.

Hector: She's beautiful, isn't she? I loved her from the moment I first saw her. [Shakes head] But she could never see me, as you were always standing in the way. But not anymore.

Hector goes to infect Carol, but Y/n wasn't going to let that happen, unfortunately, he couldn't strike him without putting her in danger.

Y/n: No! No! Don't! Don't do this, Hector. Please. Please. [Turns to him] I know how you feel.

Hector: [Chuckles in amazement] Come on, look at yourself!

Y/n: No, I know what it's like... to not live up to expectations... to feel like nothing that you do will ever be good enough. [Pulls off ring] I know what it's like to be afraid. Let me help you.

Hector: Y/n. You've changed. How wonderful that all it took for you to grow up was the end of the world. Now it's my turn. And if I can't be like you, I'm gonna make her like me. And let's face it, once she's like me... then you wouldn't be very interested. Hmm? Now, would you?

Y/n: [Thinks of something] Why can't you?

Hector: [Confused] Hmm?

Y/n: Why can't you be like me?

Hector: Heh. Huh?

Y/n: Let her go... [Holds ring out] and you can have it. You can do anything. Be anything.

As he pleaded for Carol's life, at even the cost of his Green Lantern ring, Y/n slowly pressed a button on his phone, calling Hal.

Y/n: [Gestures to ring] Take it. Let her make the choice.

Hector: Okay.

The ring floated over to Hector as Y/n exchanged looks from him and Carol. Hal knew where his brother would be and looked inside of the building, looking at Y/n, Hector and a floating Carol standing inside. Y/n looked behind him and nodded to him as Hector stood at the force of power he got from the ring.

Hector: Wow.

He laughed at the power he felt, turning to the backroom and firing at the computers. He was in total control at the power of the ring and turned back to Y/n, knowing he was at the mercy of him now.

Y/n: [Hal sneaks in] Now bring her down.

Hector: [Sighs] Y/n. I lied.

He goes to fire a beam at Y/n, but the beam stopped and shined its green glow on the person who was entrusted of the ring.

Y/n: I lied too. See, the way it works is... you have to be chosen. [Turns to Hal; gestures to Carol] Hal, now!

The beam fires back at Hector, sending him into the computers in the backroom. Y/n and Hal race over to Carol, one of them catching her and the other destroying the syringe upon impact.
