The early morning sun cast long shadows across Seoul National University's sprawling campus, its warm rays gradually chasing away the lingering chill from the previous days of rain. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and blooming cherry blossoms, a heady mixture that seemed to promise new beginnings.
Students milled about the main quad, their voices creating a constant hum of activity. Some lounged on benches, textbooks open but largely ignored as they chatted with friends. Others hurried across the manicured lawns, clutching coffee cups and checking watches, clearly running late for early classes.
In one corner of the quad, partially hidden by the drooping branches of an old willow tree, sat Seungmin. His pastel pink sweater stood out against the lush green grass, making him look like a delicate flower amidst a sea of foliage. His soft brown hair, streaked with fading pink highlights, fell gently across his forehead as he absently plucked at blades of grass.
Flanking him on either side, like protective bookends, were his best friends Felix and Hyunjin. The contrast between the three was striking. Where Seungmin was all soft lines and gentle colors, Felix and Hyunjin were sharp edges and bold hues.
Felix, with his shock of bright orange hair and constellation of freckles, practically vibrated with nervous energy. His fingers drummed an erratic beat on his knee as he leaned forward, eyes fixed intently on Seungmin's downturned face.
Hyunjin, on the other hand, was the picture of cold fury. His long, raven-black hair was pulled back into a messy bun, revealing the sharp angles of his face. His designer clothes – ripped jeans and a leather jacket that probably cost more than most students' monthly rent – spoke of wealth and privilege. But it was the hard set of his jaw and the fire in his eyes that truly commanded attention.
The tension surrounding the trio was palpable, creating an invisible barrier that kept other students at bay. Those who passed nearby instinctively gave them a wide berth, sensing the storm brewing beneath the surface.
Felix was the first to break the uneasy silence, his usually cheerful voice strained with worry. "Minnie, please," he pleaded, reaching out to place a gentle hand on Seungmin's arm. "You've got to give us something. What happened after you left the festival with Jeongin? We've been worried sick!"
Seungmin flinched slightly at the touch, not out of fear but guilt. He knew his friends had spent the night frantic with concern, their text messages and missed calls a testament to their worry. But how could he explain what had transpired between him and Jeongin? How could he put into words the whirlwind of emotions, the passionate kisses, the raw vulnerability they'd shared?
Before Seungmin could formulate a response, Hyunjin's patience snapped. "Yeah, one minute you were there, and the next you were gone. With Yang Jeongin of all people!" His voice dripped with disdain as he spat out Jeongin's name. "Do you have any idea how that looked? How it made us feel?"
