Part 4

Ponyboy and I decided to keep what had happened between us and us only.We didn't want to worry anyone,Darry already had enough on his plate.About half an hour later we were disturbed by Twobit dashing into the house shrieking with laughter,Dally was hot at his heels screaming "I'll get you for that Two!" Me and Ponyboy came out of his room to see what all the commotion was about.Dally had Twobit on the ground at this point and was shouting "say uncle!" in his ear. "No way" wheezed Twobit  "I'm not givin' up just yet". "What's all the ruckus about?" Asked Pony. "It doesn't matter!" Yelled Dally "Say uncle!" "Uncle! Uncle!" cried Twobit still sniggering. He sat up and began his story.

 "Well I was on my way down here,when I saw old Dally tryna pick up a girl!" Dally glared at him. "So I thought I might have some fun so I came over to em' and said "Dal? You're talking to other people? I thought you loved me!"You should have seen the look on her face!" Two was in hysterics at this point and I was laughing my head off too.Twobit always cheered me up and I was glad he was here.Dally was scowling and saying "Shut up!"Though he eventually cheered up too. "I heard you haven't been too well kiddo" said Twobit turning to me. Man,news travelled fast. "I'm fine". I said for maybe the 6 billionth time today.He grinned his classic grin and ruffled my hair "good". "No!You're messing up my hair stop!" I whined. "Oh stop this?" he asked,pretending to be clueless and messing up my hair more. "Keith Matthews!" I yelled sternly,we started playfighting and I swear I was winning but then he started tickling me.Everyone in the gang knew I was extremely ticklish and they used it against me frequently. "Careful with her Two she's just been sick!" said Pony anxiously as we lay on the floor shrieking with laughter. I still wasn't feeling great but I was tired of being a bother,I wanted to have fun.

"I'm fine Pony don't worry" I yelled,still laughing. "Will you guys keep it down" whined Dally,scowling. I made a fake pouty face, "Aww Dally,are you sad because Two ruined your chances with that girl?". "Shut up" snapped Dallas, "Y'know I could beat the tar outta you if I wanted". I scoffed, "Go ahead then". He scowled again and muttered, "smartass kid". Then he grinned,no one in the gang could stay mad at me for long.It must drive Ponyboy insane.

"Tell ya what" said Twobit, "lets go to Dairy Queen to cheer everyone up,I'll pay!" 

"I won't say no to that" replied Ponyboy,standing up. "Neither will I" agreed Dally.

About half an hour we were sat in Dairy Queen,full of our favourite blizzards.We were all chatting happily when I noticed Twobit kept glancing over at another table. It was full of about three girls,two blondes and a brunette. "What's up Two?" I whispered,leaning over him. "It's that girl Marcia" he replied,still looking. "I met her a few months back,before...y'know.Golly but she was the most amazing girl I ever met". I remembered Two talking about that girl Marcia.Boy was he sweet on her, "Go talk to her then!" I muttered,trying not to show my excitement.He looked sad, "I can't,pretty sure she's still dating that Soc.Besides,she don't wanna be seen with someone like me in front of her friends". I saw the girl stand up and go to get another straw, "you don't know that Two! Look there's your chance,go!". I shoved him off his seat and towards the girl.He looked back wearily,but walked towards her. Marcia beamed happily when Twobit started talking to her.I hoped it would work out for him.

"Where'd Twobit go?" asked Ponyboy. I didn't want to tell them the truth incase Dally saw it as his opportunity to get revenge. "Just to get another straw" I lied, "I'm gonna run to the bathroom OK." 

"OK" replied Ponyboy.I slid out of my seat and made my way to the bathroom.

I walked out of the ladies room,wiping my hands on my shirt,only to see Bradley Charmers leant against the wall smoking a cigarette. "Well would you look who it is" he said, "hey greasy". I was shaking like hell but I tried to hide it "Hello Bradley" I replied curtly and tried to walk past him.He stood in front of me,glowering. "You know greasy,I don't appreciate being punched in the face,and then suspended all because of a bitch like you.That's the kind of thing...that I don't let slide". My stomach jolted,I needed to stay calm but I was scared out of my mind.To my relief I saw Dally and Ponyboy come over,looking at Bradley suspiciously. "Do we have a problem here?" Asked Dally,glaring at Bradley. "Not unless you want one,greaser" retorted Bradley. This guy was too bold for his own good,no one talked to Dally like that. "Hey don't get wise kid" Dally stepped towards Bradley and stood up straight. "I know all about you,and I could grind you to sand under my feet if you give me good reason to". Oh god,I couldn't let a fight start. "It's fine Dal" I said hastily, "let's just go". He put a hand on my arm protectively and led me away,looking back at Bradley threateningly. "You let me know if he becomes a problem kid" he ordered. Twobit ran to join us,a piece of paper in his hand. "Did you get her number?" I asked excitedly. "Yep" he beamed, "she broke up with that Soc!" Despite what happened I tried to be happy for Twobit,and forget all about Bradley Charmers.

If only it were that easy.
