So, it turns out that Lorelei didn't really do trust falls because the moment her feet stopped touching solid ground, her body went into pilot mode, and she summoned her wings.

Terrible decision for several reasons.

One, she was really fucking tired.

Two, all that magic had drained her.

Three, she couldn't support Percy's weight because she was so fucking tired and drained.

Lastly, because Percy had turned them so he would hit the water first, the impact of crashing into the Mississippi had not only caused her wings to pull back at an almost unnatural angle but also had caught on the current of the river.

As soon as Percy hit the water, he realised four things.

One, he hadn't become a human pancake upon impact.

Two, he couldn't feel the Chimaera poison boiling in his veins any more, meaning the water had healed him.

Three, he was completely dry and could breathe.

Lastly, and probably the most important thing, Lorelei wasn't with him anymore.

One second, her hands were around Percy the next she was being torn away by the current. Percy's eyes widened as he felt Lora being ripped from his grasp as he settled on the river bottom with clouds of silt and disgusting garbage swirling all around him.

Percy immediately reaches out a hand in the direction Lorelei had gone and by some miracle, the current shifts. Percy feels relief flow through him as Lorelei is brought back to him. He realises that although he could breathe normally underwater, Lorelei could not so he uses the water around them to help pull her up and places her on the river bed before going back into the river.

Lorelei jerks awake as she hears someone pleading for her to wake up. She had hit her head against some rocks as the current pulled her away and she had promptly lost consciousness.

"Angel? C'mon, star girl, can you hear me?" The voice was murky but as seconds passed and she regained consciousness, it became clearer. "Angel? You okay?"

"Do I look okay?" Lorelei croaks out. "I just jumped off the fucking St. Louis arch, hurt my wings somehow, hit my head, and then lost consciousness. You used like five nicknames, Perce."

Lorelei groans as she sits up but Percy lets out a breath of relief. "Three, actually but at least you're okay. I used the water to heal you. Well, I didn't know if it worked but it did, so."

Lorelei blinks as the world around her finally comes into focus. "Perce?"

"Yeah?"

"Shut up and help me up, please."

"Oh, shit. Fuck, yeah, okay."

Lorelei leans slightly on Percy as he keeps an arm wrapped around her waist.

"How the fuck are you all dry?" Lorelei looks at him. "I look like those clusters of seaweeds that wash up on the beach. Can't you dry me too?"

"Uh, no?" Percy said. "Maybe? I don't know. I never got wet in the first place."

"God has his favourites, I suppose." Lorelei mumbles. "The looks, the personality, the parents, ugh. Couldn't have made it more obvious that you have favourites, could you?"
