Iris walks into the treehouse with Logan. Bark! Bark! Immediately, Iris overloads them with questions. "You guys actually got a dog!? Agh! It's so cute! What kind of dog is it?! Is it a boy or a girl? Does it have a name? Can I name it!?"
Answering all of Iris' questions, Alias says, "His name is Astroid. He was born a few months ago, and he's an Australian Shepard."
The realization hits them all at the same time. "When Astroid gets older how is he supposed to get in the treehouse? You won't be able to pick him up and carry him up the ladder like you can now," Logan brings to light.
"Can we go house shopping!?" Sierra asks, excitedly. Speaking under her breath, jokingly, Iris mumbles, "Isn't y'all's relationship moving quite quickly." "Um... Well, we could if I could afford one. I'm still saving up money from the temporary part-time jobs," Alias says.
"You can't wait forever for your favorite restaurant to need hiring. They may not be in dire need of employees, but that doesn't mean they don't have spots open," Sierra says. "I guess it's settled. As soon as I'm hired and making money, we can go house shopping," Alias says.
Sierra brings some different information to light. "My parents have already offered me a house. They'll pay for it. All we need is a year. Then we can start paying for it ourselves."
"Do you think your parents would still pay for the house knowing I'll be in it?" Alias asks. "Ha, nope!" Iris shouts, laughing. "I'm sure they'd be fine with it," Sierra asks.
A few days go by and Sierra arrives at her large 3-story home. "Hiiiii! How have you guys been here at the house?" Sierra asks, hugging her mom. "It's been okay. Is Iris feeling better?" Sierra's mom asks. "Yeah, it was just allergies. After taking some allergy medication she started to feel better. I and the band went to the festival here in town," Sierra tells her parents.
"When do you return to school now that you know it's nothing serious?" Sierra's father questions. "As soon as next Monday comes. I promise, Dad. There's something I wanted to ask," Sierra says. "Yes?" Her dad asks with a sturn look on his face.
Why does he have to make that face every time I wanna talk about something serious? It's so annoying and scary. Ughhhh~! You got this Sierra. Just spit it out...
Sierra takes a deep breath and the words spill from her mouth. "I was wondering if the offer for the house was still available. Alias got us a dog and being in the treehouse is kind of unsuitable for a dog. Pleeeeease~?" She begs.
"What do you mean by, Alias got us a dog? You mean us as a family, right?" Her father asks, his fists clenched tight. "Not really... What I'm trying to say is that me and Alias are in a relationship. He got us a dog, and I want to live with him," Sierra says. Getting nervous, she starts biting her bottom lip.
Of course, her father lashes out at her. "No! You aren't living with that boy! I don't care how much different he is! I do not approve!" "James, calm down! We promised her we'd buy her a house. Who she shares it with is beyond us...
Look, Sierra, if you believe that Alias is a truly good person and loves you, then we will support you and help you. For now, I don't like the idea of you two sharing a house and not being married. Too much can happen when a guy and girl are in a house alone. You know how I feel about that," her mother says.
Sierra's father exits the room, so he doesn't get any more mad than he already is. If it hasn't been made clear, Sierra's father strongly dislikes Alias.
"I know, Mom. Nothing like that will happen until marriage. I'll talk to Alias about this. I don't even know if he wants any of this. I feel like I'm moving too fast.
Ever since Alias moved out of the house I've had a crush on him. Do you know how long ago he got kicked out? It's been 6 years, Mom," Sierra says. "I know that, Sierra. How long have you and Alias been in a relationship?" Her mother asks. Mumbling, Sierra says, "Not even a month." "I'd say, talk to him about it. Ask him if he's comfortable with the pace of y'all's relationship," her mom advises.
Sierra begins talking her mind. "I think he's okay with it. I mean, I've known Alias his whole life. We know pretty much everything about each other. Me moving too fast isn't on purpose. It's just because we already know each other and we don't have a lot of secrets. It's like we skipped the friendship part of our relationship because we've already been friends for so long. I dunno, it all feels so strange."
Sierra's mom comforts Sierra by hugging her close and giving her advice. "It seems more like you're scared. As far as I know, you've been in two relationships. This is all still new to you.
In my opinion, you are moving pretty fast, but considering all the factors, it's reasonable. So far what I'm hearing, though is that you two already know each other, you two obviously like each other, so why wait? It's normal to think that way, and it's okay.
You said you've liked him since he got kicked out. 6 years is a long time to have a crush on someone. I am positive that you have already imagined him getting you a dog, moving in with you, getting married, and having a wedding.
Not a lot of kids at that age were and are thinking about marriage. Dating's just fun to them. You thought differently. When Alias was here, he thought dating was something you do for fun. I didn't want you to be so exposed to that. That's why I kicked him out; to protect you.
If you believe he's somewhat mature and he really loves you, then talk to him and get married. I'll pay for the wedding and everything. I just don't want you getting hurt. Make sure you truly know who you want to spend the rest of your life with." "Thank you, Mom. Thank you for being so accepting. I'll talk to Alias, I promise," Sierra says.
How does Mom always know what to say? She never fails to comfort me, Sierra thinks.
"Go, talk to Alias," her mom says playfully shooing Sierra away. Confused, Sierra mutters, "Hmm?" "Go talk to Alias," her mom repeats. "Right now?" Sierra asks hesitantly. "Yes, right now. Go to talk to him," her mother says. "I just got here," she says. "Go talk to your future husband before I change my mind about him," her mom threatens. "Okayyyy! Thank you, Mom! I love youuuuu!" Sierra shouts, running out of the house.
Sierra drives to the treehouse as fast as possible to speak to Alias. The entire drive there, Sierra wonders, I hope he wants this as bad as I do. Alias is the person I want to spend the rest of my life with.
