[ Shadow Pov ]
My eyes fluttered open softly, and a gentle ray of light shone through open curtains. Realizing my surroundings were unfamiliar I turned my head tiredly to look around, my eyes still blurry and adjusting to the light.
I quickly recognized the color of the bedroom walls, and the people in the picture frame sitting on the nightstand next to me. I was in Sonic's room.
Feeling a stir beside me, I looked over to see the azure holding me in his arms, peacefully looking down at me. I felt my face become warm by his gaze, it was calm and loving. He had one hand gently placed on my ear, massaging it softly.
"What are you doing, faker.." I mumbled, secretly enjoying the gesture. Sonic giggled softly in response.
"Just being cuddly.." He said quietly, "clearly you enjoy the affection." He smiled. Confusion stirred inside of me as I tilted my head to the side.
"What are you talking about..?" I asked, my eyebrows furrowing. Sonic's gaze softened as he continued rubbing circles on my ear gently.
"Listen." He answered, saying nothing afterward. I listened to the quietness and heard only silence, as expected. Before I could say anything a soft rumbling caught my attention. It was almost silent, barely over a whisper.
I looked around to find it, but wherever I looked the sound would disappear and move somewhere new, as if it were following me.
"Where is it.." I grumbled to myself in frustration, annoyed that I couldn't locate where the sound was coming from. I only earned a soft chuckle from the azure, along with a poke on the chest.
"You're purring, Shads." He laughed, his finger motioning me to look downwards towards my chest. I felt my face heat up in embarrassment almost immediately as I realized the sound was in fact coming from me.
"So what?" I grumbled angrily, "All hedgehog's purr." I stuck my face back into the crook of Sonic's neck, trying to hide the red on my muzzle.
"You purr a lot louder than other hedgehog's I've heard." He responded, catching me off guard.
"Other hedgehogs?" I asked intensely, retracting my head to look at the azure. "You've done this with other people?"
Sonic giggled in response, clearly picking up on my jealousy. "No, no..! I have siblings." He smiled. Immediately I felt at ease and rested my head back on his chest.
"Oh..." I whispered, kind of embarrassed that I let something so small get to me.
"Awe," Sonic cooed as he massaged my ear, "were you worried they'd take all the cuddles from you?"
I let out a low growl in response, my ears pinning to my head in frustration. I hated how easily the azure could read me. It made me feel vulnerable.
"You're adorable when you're angry." Sonic said, a teasing smile on his face. I angrily sat up grabbing a pillow which happened to be beside me and whacked him in the face with it, shoving him down onto the sheets.
The only response I got were soft giggles, which made my face heat up. The sound of his laughter was the only thing I ever needed to hear.
"I should probably leave.. You're dad can't know I'm here." The sentence felt wrong to say. Dad was definitely not the correct word to describe that horrible man, but the last thing I wanted was to bring down the mood.
Sonic chuckled, sitting up. "Don't worry, he sleeps for what seems like an eternity. We have time, want a smoothie?"
I nodded and threw my legs over the bed, my feet hanging just inches from the floor. I stood up and turned to face the azure. "Is this your bathroom?" I asked. Sonic nodded and headed towards the door.
"I'll start the smoothies downstairs, you come down when you're ready." He said with a warm smile, causing butterflies to erupt into my stomach. Nodding, I opened the bathroom door and opened the light.
Leaning on the sink with my hands, I examined myself. My quills were all over the place and I looked as if I had just risen from the dead, which was an exaggeration, of course.
I turned on the faucet and splashed water onto my face, jolting as the ice-cold water made contact with my face. Shaking off the water from my face, I sighed. Lifting my hands up, I ran my fingers through my messy quills. I looked presentable, at least, but I was not satisfied.
I noticed a hair tie sitting on the sink and grabbed it, bringing it up towards my head. With a few winces and pulls, I managed to tie all the quills into one bunch. I smoothed out my shirt and walked out the door, my feet pounding down the stairs. The smell of fresh fruit filled my nostrils as I entered the kitchen. Sonic poured a thick, purple smoothie into two empty glass cups, filling both of them to the brim. I walked towards the counter and sat on the stool, leaning my arms onto the island.
The azure pushed a tall clear glass towards me with a smile. It smelled of blueberries and bananas, bringing a nostalgic feeling to my senses. I took a sip and closed my eyes, savoring the flavor.
After a few sips Sonic walked to the fridge, opening the door. He set down his half full glass and closed the door behind him.
"Are you not finishing yours?" I asked, curious as to why the azure never seemed to fully finish his meals.
"I'm not really hungry right now, so I'm saving it for later." Sonic said, a playful smile on his face. Practically skipping to the door, he swung it open and took in a big breath of air.
"Let's go, shall we?" The azure asked, clearly wanting to get out a little. I felt a small smile creep onto my muzzle as I stood up from my chair. I followed him out the door and observed him. He was a lot more relaxed compared to the past few days, which made me happy.
Grabbing my hand, Sonic looked at me with eyes full of excitement and warmth.
"And.. where exactly are we going?" I asked.
"I dunno!" Sonic beamed, before pulling me along with him.
