The ability to do something and actually doing it are starkly different. I learned that from a young age. I grew up watching my father save people, the idea of heroism imbued deeply within my being. I tried being a hero in my own way growing up. I defended those around me and always, without fail, mentioned my father being a pro. That's how I met Keiko. We were five and in the same class. Everyone by that time had gotten their quirks, myself included. Keiko sadly told the class she was quirkless. I remember everyone laughing at her. And the worst part was that I didn't say anything. She ran out of the room crying, no one bothered to follow her. The preschool teachers with us focussed on congratulating the quirk-given students. Keiko didn't show up to school for a week. The day she returned, a group of 3 girls belittled her when the teachers weren't looking. I sat beside Keiko. I tried to ignore them and mind my own business, but I couldn't. Keiko's eyes were clouded and watery and I knew I had to do something.

One girl pulled Keiko's hair and I stood up, turning towards the girl and pointing my finger at her. A sugar bullet flew from my finger and scratched her shoulder. "Leave her alone!" I shouted. Keiko looked at me stunned, she was shaky and crying.

"Ow!" The bully cried, grabbing her shoulder in pain. The scratch was only surface-level and didn't even bleed. But, 5 year olds are dramatic.

"Why did you do that, Mitsu-Chan?" One of the three asked. She was embracing the one I grazed with a bullet close to her as if I caused severe irreversible damage.

"You guys need to be nice!" I pout as I wrap my arms around Keiko comfortingly. "She didn't do anything to you!"

"She's quirkless!" One of them argued. She was the leader of the three who earned the reputation of being the biggest meanie in Tokiwa Kindergarten.

"And that gives you the right to belittle her?!" I shouted. A teacher had come up to the five of us to see what the commotion was about.

"Y/N, what happened?" Ms. Ito asked with concern.

"Akari and the other two were picking on Keiko!" I answered angrily.

"Mitsu-chan used her quirk on me!" The girl I 'injured', Mai, said. She started to cry while gripping her shoulder and cuddling deep into Hana's embrace.

"Y/N, is this true?" Ms. Ito asked, this time with disappointment evident in her voice. I crossed my arms and stared her in her eyes.

"Yes, but they were hurting Keiko!" I replied with conviction. I was annoyed. The small scratch would be gone within an hour, and I was sure Keiko was hurt more by Mai pulling her hair.

"You know using your quirk is forbidden inside school!" Ms. Ito said, her voice raised slightly. My eye twitched. Was she really more mad at me than the bullies? "I know you think you can get away with things because your dad is a pro, but you can't! Apologize to Mai, right now!"

"That's not why I did it! I don't have special treatment because of my dad! And I wasn't going to sit back and let them bully Keiko!" I shouted. "Why am I getting punished when they're the bullies?!"

"Because they didn't use their quirks! Now apologize or else I'll call your mother," Ms. Ito said.

"Fine! Call her! I don't care! I'm not apologizing!" I stomped my foot. Ms. Ito grabbed my wrist, dragging me out of the classroom and to the hallway. I struggled against her grip, trying to push myself out of her hold. She sat me down on the floor and went back to the classroom. The phone was by the door so I could hear the muffled voice of my mother on the other side of the call.

"She did what?" My mother asked flabbergasted with a gasp. "Me and Taishiro will be right there. I'm so sorry, Ito-san."

Just as they promised, my parents arrived minutes later. I refused to look at them as I kicked my foot against the wall. Ms. Ito directed us to the principal's office. I sat between my mom and dad as we sat opposite to the Principal. My parents had solemn expressions cast on their faces. "Ms. Ito told me about what happened." The principal, Mr. Konishi, said. His gaze locked onto me. I refused to meet his stare. "I am very disappointed in your daughter, Mr and Mrs Toyomitsu. To my understanding, what she did was an act of vigilantism. That is strongly frowned upon here and throughout the rest of the world. She should've gotten help or brought the problem to the attention of Ms. Ito, however, she took things into her own hands and injured Ms. Mai Ogawa. I expected better from the daughter of a pro hero."
