Angie groaned softly as her alarm went off obnoxiously, nearly deafening her and making her cringe softly. Keeping her face pressed into her pillow, Angie began blindly fumbling around for her alarm clock, desperate to find the snooze button.

"Don't you dare go back to sleep, Evangeline!" Richard Webber ordered from the doorway of the guest room as he flicked on the lights. Angie whined in protest, sitting up and turning to face her father with a pout as she silenced her alarm.

"But it's so early!" she complained childishly, kicking her legs under the comforter. Richard chuckled as he stepped into the room, his arms folded across his chest.

"Welcome to being a surgeon, honey. We wake up early, then never sleep again." Angie snorted softly at his words, pulling off her bonnet and rubbing the sleep out of her eyes as Richard sat down next to her on the bed. "I'm about to head back to the hospital to get ready for the rest of your class, but I wanted to just get a minute alone with you before your shift. See how you're feeling." Richard seemed to vibrate with excitement, giving Angie a large grin that made her laugh again.

"I feel fine, Dad. I already know half the staff. I'll be OK."

"Are you sure? Because you're with Bailey, and you know how Bailey is. People even call her the–"

"The Nazi. I know. That's why I feel fine. If anyone won't care about the fact that my father is the chief of surgery, it'll be Dr. Bailey."

Richard raised an eyebrow, nodding in agreement before meeting Angie's eyes once again, a proud smile etching onto his face. "Look at you. All grown up and starting your own internship. When the hell did that happen?" He murmured softly, his voice thick with emotion.

Angie gave her father a small, adoring pout, taking his hand gently. "Hey. You can't cry, alright? Because if you cry, I'll cry, and I can't cry before I've even brushed my teeth."

Richard just laughed, playfully pinching Angie's arm and making her yelp in surprise as she shoved his hand away. Richard only wrapped an arm around her in response, squeezing her in a tight hug. Angie smiled into the hug, squeezing him back before he pulled away to kiss her forehead tenderly.

"I'll see you at the hospital, alright?" he sighed. Angie nodded in understanding as Richard stood from the bed, squeezing his daughter's cheeks endearingly before slipping out of the room. Angie sighed, stretching in her bed and trying to push herself to crawl out of her blankets when a camera flash went off from the doorway. Angie shot up, her eyes darting over to the entrance.

"Wha– Adele!"

"Don't be mad at me! Your mother wanted pictures of your first day!"

Angie cursed, fumbling out of bed as her stepmother began hurrying down the hall, camera in hand.

"Adele, don't you dare send her that!"

"Each of you comes here today hopeful, wanting in on the game," Richard began, looking at all of the interns he had brought into the O.R. Angie smiled softly, fighting the urge to mouth along to the speech he gave every year as she took in the room before her. "A month ago, you were in med school being taught by doctors. Today, you are the doctors. The seven years you spend here as a surgical resident will be the best and worst of your life. You will be pushed to the breaking point."

Angie rolled her eyes in amusement. She always thought that part was a little dramatic. This was a hospital, for Christ's sake. What could possibly happen?
